AC Milan will play their final game before the World Cup break on Sunday against Fiorentina at San Siro and they will hope to get the best version of Rafael Leao back.
Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) write that Leao wants to bid farewell to his fabulous 2022 at club level with a performance to remember with Fiorentina, and things generally go well in this particular fixture as he scored a wonder goal in the 2019-20 season (albeit in a 3-1 defeat) and netted the winner last season after Terracciano’s error which helped haul Milan towards the Scudetto.
He will have to drown out the noise that has arisen regarding the renewal of his contract. While the proclaimed target of Paolo Maldini was to have things done before the World Cup in Qatar, there does not seem to have been any significant progress in the negotiations.
The player’s high demands and the delicate situation linked to the fine that Leao has to pay to Sporting CP makes things difficult, all while Chelsea and now Real Madrid continue to look on with interest.
If he wanted to renew, he would have done so by now. Milan need to use the world cup break to set up the sale and look for high quality reinforcements.
