Leao explains meaning behind surfer emoji and jokes about a bet with Theo Hernandez

By Oliver Fisher -

Rafael Leao has explained the meaning behind the emoji he always uses on social media and joked about a potential bet with Theo Hernandez.

Leao has become known for using the surfer symbol either when he scores or when Milan win (or both of course) along with the captain ‘We go’, and during an interview with DAZN he explained that there is actually a meaning behind its use rather than it just being randomly chosen.

“Surfers sometimes get the wrong wave, but then they get back on the board and do well. I think it’s the right way to think: you can try and make mistakes but you have to keep learning, find solutions in the face of mistakes,” he said (via MilanNews).

Leao was also asked about his friend Theo Hernandez, and specifically the idea that the Frenchman might be faster than him if it came to a sprinting race, and the Portuguese international seemed to be well up for the challenge.

“He says he is faster than me? In training some time we’ll have to have a bet and race… I like Theo because when he starts he is very powerful. For me he is one of the strongest left-backs in the world, a fundamental element for our team.”

Leao has certainly come on leaps and bounds in terms of consistency in his third season at the club as he has 11 goals across all competitions, forming a lethal partnership down the right side with Theo.
