Lecce 0-2 AC Milan: Live updates and commentary from the Serie A clash

AC Milan are hoping to bounce back from the defeat against Cremonese in the season opener, taking on Lecce away from home tonight. Having said that, Max Allegri doesn’t have the best of squads at his disposal, with many absences.

FT: Lecce 0-2 Milan

Big, big win for Milan! The first half was quite poor but in the second, Milan deservedly broke the deadlock. Something to build on at least, which is exactly what Allegri wanted and could have hoped given the absences.

90'

Five minutes added on.

88'

Fun to see Balentien on, the right-back/wing-back who joined Milan Futuro just eight days ago.

88'
Another sub for Milan...

On: Balentien.

Off: Gimenez.

86'
GOAL! CHRISTIAN PULISIC AND IT'S 2-0!

The American made the most of a defensive mistake there, somewhat helped by Gimenez, and the finish with his left foot was brilliant.

80'

Ricci forces Falcone to a very good stop!

76'
First subs for Milan...

On: Ricci, Pulisic.

Off: Loftus-Cheek, Saelemaekers.

75'

Pavlovic does so well to set up Gimenez, who can’t quite create space for a shot.

70'

Falcone denies Fofana! A decent effort by the Frenchman.

66'
GOAL! LOFTUS-CHEEK! 1-0! (Assist: Luka Modric)

This goal will stand! Great cross by Modric and an even better header from RLC, almost with his back facing the goal. Fantastic stuff.

64'

Saelemaekers is brought down and wants a red card for an obvious goal-scoring opportunity denied, but it will probably stay at a yellow.

63'

Very unlucky for Gimenez, that must’ve been a narrow offside. He did so well to get to that shot.

62'
Gimenez scores but VAR says no!

Great strike by Gimenez and lengthy celebrations, but VAR rules out the goal for a narrow offside…

54'

Decent start by Milan, let’s hope they continue.

46'
The second half is underway!

Milan have to step up massively, otherwise it will be yet another game without three points.

HT: Lecce 0-0 Milan
45+4'
HUGE MISS!

Gimenez is through on goal but sends his shot wide. He has to do better there.

45'

Four minutes added on.

36'

RLC’s header is saved by Falcone! Looked like a potential offside in the build-up, though.

33'

Modric is increasingly frustrated, you can tell. Milan have absolutely no optimism in their build-up. Just playing round and round and round.

27'

Cooling break underway. So far, it must be said that Milan haven’t looked much better at all. They are mostly playing on the outside of Lecce’s defensive shape, and it’s hard to create chances then.

21'

Milan got lucky there. Very good chance for Lecce after a poor moment from Estupinan, but in the end, the shots were all blocked. There was an opportunity to pass Camarda at one point…

14'

Pretty even game so far, though Lecce have looked quite dangerous when given some space on the flanks. As expected, they are trying to exploit Milan’s wide centre-backs.

6'
VAR rules out the goal! Still 0-0

Gabbia’s goal is disallowed after VAR check. It was a pretty clear push with both arms by the defender, but still hurts.

  1. If Lecce starts Attacking from both left and right sides, they could win this, or at lease get a tie.

Been waiting for the whole week, for Estupido to put up a ‘clown show’ haha ( Muussahhh gonna play FW as usual)

      1. It’s natural that fans are disappointed, because we changed coaches but there hasn’t been any real change in the game, we sold key players, other teams are getting stronger (como 5 years from serie D, inter won 5-0, etc.), we are getting worse and the management is always late in planning transfers, etc.

    1. I was so pissed off I missed my nickname. Every ball goes to Modric, when Leao is back he’ll just pass long to him. I think this is Allegris tactic for the whole season.

    2. Musah is better than Estupinan. Modric looks like he woke up from a nightmare but then realised it is real life. The day that he believed Tare that Milan will be competitive. 🤣

  2. 30min nothing if you guys like watch Milan like this then lets go.
Totaly embarasing playing this year we worst then last

  3. Estupiñan is just horrible. Fofana has been rubbish too. RLC has missed two goals already. When Musah is one of your best players so far, you know you’re in trouble.

This Milan is officially worse than last year’s.

In any case, all the morons who want to sell Leão should be paying attention to how toothless we are without him.

  4. Estupiñan is just horrible. Fofana has been rubbish too. RLC has missed two goals already. When Musah is one of your best players so far, you know you’re in trouble.

      1. Hard to understand why Ricci hasn’t been playing as he is so much better than Fofana!

And we can’t rely just on Modric, Puli and Leão; that’s a mercato failure. We needed serious reinforcements after last year’s fiasco, and got very little from this mercato. I was hopeful for Jashari but he had to get seriously hurt; that was bad luck.

Gimenez has just missed a sitter.

I can’t see Milan making top 4 this season.

  5. why is musahs ideally last match his best? estupinan looks like theo + musah if u remove musahs defending . I dont like the look of this team without ricci and leao , pulisic is also missed

    1. Milan looks like a Serie D team at best. Our defenders must have the worst technique of any team in Serie A. Pavlovic is a lost cause. He looks like Yogi bear out there.

    2. his best game was probably against Real Madrid when he combined with Emerson to completely neutralize the best left sided player in the world.

  6. yep . giminez is getting sold lol . u have to be putting that on target! but still his our player that tracked the most . we need to get rid of rlc right now and field pulisic if hes available?

  7. Milan is all over the place, not the images of the coach. Modric can’t even get in the game, no link between Defense and attack. Why did we sign Ricci?

  8. Oh my. Only Saelamakers is working. Gimenez can’t focus because management put these transfer rumors on his shoulders. He is too concerned with comparing himself to Dovbyk. Actually, many players are in between of these transfer talks. Some of them don’t care anymore. The management’s role in our bad performance shouldn’t be overlooked.

    1. Well if they didn’t even bother to get the players he wanted he isn’t really set for success. Need a target man, gets Nkunku. Guardiola would’t win titles all the time if he had re*arded management behind him. Allegri will fail because he has 1 tactic and they didn’t get the players he needed. Expected.

  9. Saelamakers work rate is tremendous and he is playing well but not producing. Overall we do not look good at all.

  10. How, just how is Pavlovic yet again our best Center forward????? I mean at least he gets them on target and forces a save. Santi is dragging shots 3ft wide in a 1v1…

Allegri showing he learned absolutely nothing from last week. Crazy its 2 weeks in and it already feels like his clock is ticking. Nkunku wasn’t a super convincing idea to me at first, but after watching this, he cant get up top fast enough… Only positives so far is modric passing which was just a given, and the left side with pav estupinian and Alexis actually trying. Musah constantly losing the ball as expected, fofana and rlc doing next to nothing in build up, and santi showing the confidence of a field mouse. All whilst watching Allegris terrorism ball…

    1. Santi’s head is busy because the day before, he was told by his boss to accept the Dovbyk swap. His ego is hurt. He probably doesn’t care anymore.

  11. How some can have salary and play like this?
Also how some can be coach and put this formation?
Can some tell Alegri he not anymore Juve coach,he need help us play better 😂😂

  12. Can everyone who’s talking about Allegri just STFU .. if Gimenez misses a sitter then its not Allegri’s fault .. Dont forget Allegri won five Scudetti with Juve and reached the CL final twice .. so STFU and give some respect

    1. Nobody cares, fanboy. Jose mourinho won a ucl 15yrs ago, does that excuse how bad his teams have been the past 8 years????? No Rafa Benitez also won a ucl, has he been given leadway when his teams were in the mud? No. What i did a decade ago means nothing when my current performance at my job is bottom of the barrel. Stop making brain dead excuses just cuz youre personal feelings got hurt

      1. What personal feelings? and why are you name calling. Who are you?? lol … Brain dead excuses lool what excuse did I make? what are you even talking about “face palm”.. Its the second game of the season and people are asking for Allegri to be sacked. Do you understand how ridiculous this is.

        1. He is some re*ard that hates Allegri and that is his personality. Every comment there is Allegri, doesn’t even matter what is the topic.

          1. I know you didnt just open your mouth, you basket case… is this your burner account? Nobody would agree with you so you had to make a 2nd account to pretend someone sided with you? Hush

          2. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yes, 2nd account, next is you use AI to write. You just showed up, what is your original account? Nino? 🤣

        2. Listen Sure jr., nobody down here has commented they want allegri to be sacked right now. Everyone has simply pointed out the obvious. Its your fault if youre offended by it. He’s done terrible, and nobody was confident in getting him to begin with, and now they’re justified in those feelings. Stop living in the past. Its not 2016

          1. @ForzaPDX. Notice how I only talked about the game and yet you are only name calling with no actual substance to what you are saying.
            Please stop embarrassing yourself further.

      1. @Sure. I understand that the team is still “gelling” and we are not playing the most attractive football but just keep in mind we are still only the second game in. Also don’t forget that we have already scored three goals of which 2 were disallowed.

  13. Genuinely think we should’ve just taken a punt on Van Bommel as manager at this point. It may not have worked, but at least it would be watchable. Max playstyle not only doesn’t work, it has me thinking shaving my eyeballs would be a more enjoyable activity. People were hoping we’d get back into top 4 with him, if we struggle this hard against relegation teams, we will be lucky to make top half…

    1. I genuinley wouldn’t have thought the dovbyk swap would be worth anything, but santi is not doing abgreay job convincing me that’s still the case… he needs to put something away for himself more than anyone. Its clear his confidence is rock bottom

      1. Agree, Gimenez needs a confidence boosting goal, but outside of actually scoring, he doesn’t look dangerous…Pulisic scores btw.

        1. I feel bad for him constantly bailing us out, especially when he’s usually putting up 50+ games a season. Dude has to be exhausted

  14. Well this team didn’t give up after two disallowed goals. Pulisic 2-0. Second half was way better than poor first. It’s a start. But we have a long way to go.

    1. It’s match #2 with multiple new players. New coach, it may take a few matches to find the right combinations. No Leao matters too.

      1. I do give them credit for that much better second half. Players seemed to be clicking far better. Feel bad for Gimenez though.

  15. Well, 2×0, and I hope this is settled… Well, glimpses of good football on the second half. Lets hope that with Leao’s return, Nkunku signing, maybe Akanji…. Who knows, perhaps Allegri can mount a good side.

    1. For real, he did well keeping possession and getting back in defense to intercept. Him and pav can be a good pair with time to gel

  16. Lecce may not be amazing, but nice to see the defense hold the clean sheets, even if still some shaky moments its something to build on. Sala looking energetic as usual, pulisic showing his best again, and modric showing he was entirely worth his wages. Glad Ricci actually got to touch the pitch today too. Hopefully once both leao and puli are fully fit, the attack can contribute more often. Sala is versatile but throwing our RW/RWB up to center forward isnt good for him

  17. Saladmaker is our star player, let that sink in. But, in all fairness, Milan without Leao and Pulisic is always going to be toothless. All things considered, it was a good match, not great, but good. Clean sheet, Mike had very little to do, and we got two goals disallowed which in my mind were 50-50.

Still, the starting lineup was midtable level. No two ways about it. And Mussah as RW is not even at that level. Five in the back where the wingers barely do anything just won’t cut it

  18. Defense holding it down for 90, pav once again a beast on both ends. Rlc definitely improved from 1st game, so credit to him, unfortunately fofana once again not really helping his case to start. With jashari out, rlc mkdric and Ricci should start
Puli looking like his best self always a welcome sight, but man someone needs to have a word with Gimenez, cuz atm with leao coming back and Nkunku supposedly half thru the door, he’s looking set for the bench. We have Bologna next and that’ll be a step up in quality.

Not pretty but a win is a win, and we need all the points we can take
