Report claims Leeds United have reignited interest in Milan playmaker

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Leeds United competed for the signing of Charles De Ketelaere over the summer and the Premier League side have not given up on signing him, a report claims.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Leeds tried hard to land De Ketelaere and even offered more money to Club Brugge but the player’s will to join the Rossoneri prevailed and he moved there for over €30m.

However, it has not been a stellar first season for the Belgian who has played 33 games in all competitions and has not yet scored, with just one assist to his name. He only has seven starts and has now been relegated to a substitute role.

De Ketelaere is also attracting the interest of Vincent Kompany at Burnley as per the report, as his compatriot knows the player well, and the playmaker’s mission is to secure a place in the Belgium squad for Euro 2024 which means he may be open to a move.

  1. Great now lets let him leave for less than half we payed for him since Pioli wont let him play and would rather trust Rebic Salemakers Origi Krunic.
Also we should pay someone to take Adli while we are at it, let all promising young players sit on bench and get sold to some club that will unlock their potential instead while we buy 30+ players like Mandzukic Origi Messias Mirante

  2. He is not a bad player but he is (never was) compatible with the Milan type of playing.
Anything above 30m I would sell without second thoughts. But I doubt such an offer will come.

      1. No one (with sanity) wants him for 40-50mil. if we can get we had paid, or minus the depreciation, it’d already be a decent offer.

  3. If we can get at least 80% of our money back, sell him asap. Otherwise, we’ll have to let him go with a total loss, since simply he is not good enough. Yup, all those CDK FANS can start trolling now.

  4. Don’t think, just SELL SELL SELL. At this point we’ll be lucky if we get anywhere near what we paid, but we need all the money we can get for new signings. With this squad next season we’re destined for 6th place.

  5. Well, I’m certain that he’ll deliver the goods next season and all the bashers will eat their own words, just like happened with Leão.

    1. Cannot compare leao in his earlier days and Cdk. Open your eyes bud. Yes leao wasn’t what he is today but he had the speed, strength and showed signs of becoming great. CDK 0 SPEED, low creativity, lost etc.

      1. Absolutely 💯 @Crazymilanfan
Some fans continue to find excuses and make false comparisons with other players to justify how bad of a signing CDK has been.
Leao in his 1st season still had 6 goals and 2 assists. And that was one of the most chaotic seasons in clubs history. From coach getting fired after few weeks, horrendous start, ceo wanting to fire everyone and negotiating with Ragnick to take over, boban publicly trashing the ceo and getting fired, covid stoppage. All that foolishness and he still contributed with 8 goals. What is CDK excuse for contributing 1 assist all season long.
If Milan can sell him and get their money back, they should do it without thinking

        1. Cdk excuses for having 1 assists is cause no one on the team knows how to score besides leao sometimes and sometimes giroud. Cdk gets maybe 10 min a game and half the time leao is out and it’s rebic. U can’t blame him for having 1 assists especially when he usually does good and has good passes/ crosses not cdk fault that’s his crosses or passes fall to mesisas, salesmakers, rebic, shit even tonali had a perfect through ball to him from cdk and he shoots striaght at the goalie. Has cdk not been the best obviously…. But everyone saying sell him when he’s got maybe I think only 2 matches with a full 90mins. Just have some patience, maybe actually give him some play time, or maybe with an actual good manager that actually knows tactics.

    2. Absolutely, Im with you Gre-No-Li as it isnt the first time impatient people wanted us to throw players under the bus who later on turned out fine.
      -tonali
      -bennacer
      -krunic
      -leao
      and we could continue…
In the end though i would be surtprised if he were to leave in the summer as the management also said that they signed him for 5 years and not one season,

      1. None of those players can be compared to how bad CDK has been. We have to look at context not just throw names and maybe some will stick.
Tonali in his 1st season was poor when it came to passing the ball but defensively he was very good. Same is the case today.
Bennacer 1st season at Milan was actually his best season as a Milan player so far. He has been mostly poor these last 3 seasons. He was a bench player the following 2 seasons and only became starter this year because Kessie left and Maldini was incompetent to sign a proper replacement.
Krunic, please. He is doing the same thing now that he was doing back then, just people learned to appreciate his hard work and sacrifice on the field.
Leao, as I said produced 8 goals in his 1st season. Was he bashed? Yes, but he was criticized because of his immaturity and lack of effort not because of his capabilities. Something that is an issue to this day.
CDK doesn’t look like a professional player out there

        1. people was still willing to can those players as well i clearly remember it. Not necessarily everybody though.
I remember people wanting us to sell tonali even while he was on loan at milan. This is the level of idiocy these forums have to deal with and i know because i pretty much read every article here on sempremilan on a daily basis and has done so for years since there generally wasnt many posts on the articles.
Krunic might not be a star player but he is still an important cog in the wheel of the ac milan machinery and has been lambasted consistently because people want big names instead when its a clear fact that there are differentb roles in a team.
CDK has shown many glimpses of good stuff but he still hasnt lived up to his pricetag in outcome that we can agree upon BUT as i already mentioned the management said he was bought for 5 years and not just one and that they expected a years transition for the player to settle in so i doubt there is many questionmarks whether he will stay put or not as theyyve already made it clear.

          1. As I said previously in other thread, it’s not ideal to waste 1-2 years for players just to adjust / adapt. There are too many examples of player who are able to perform in their first season; coming from different league and all that.

We bought them in advance. We paid them good amount of salary just to train n’ adapt in the first season? 1-2 seasons out of 5 are significant in football. If we always make a resemblance on how our previous players needed to adapt, well we also can say that we’ll have a good chance to experience another circle.

            Season 1: Adaptation period
            Season 2: Low- mid performance
Season 3: Mid – peak performance
Season 4: Peak performance & Contractual issue
Season 5: Still contractual issue and potential leave for free

Leao is the closest current example. Hakan and Kessie are the closest past examples. Do we really want this circle to continue?

And I can proudly say I was not the one who supported the sale of Tonali, Leao, etc etc in their first season. Already stated reasons above as well. But this time with CdK feels different. I only hope that I’m wrong in the end.

          2. I get what you are saying ibrahim ba but you could also argue that one years of good work close with the player would be wasted and there s no guarantees that new players arriving just gel from day one its propably the anomaly when they do especially when talking about young players. On the other hand if we could afford to buy marquee players above 50 mil it would be different.
The limitations of our finances is exactly why we have to get young players and young players doesnt often guarantees but possibilities of succes both on the sporting and financial parametres.
In regard of contracts i do believe we should set renewal deadlines of two years and if players wont renew they will get sold or get benched but that sets demands of better squad depth but we havent reached that point yet were the threat of getting benched is a viable solution for us.

It wasnt my intention to imply that either you or poli said that but clearly there was many who wanted us to skip the idea of buying tonali. I dont think that there have been one single player we own that hasn’t been suggested canned there was even voices that we should get a new first keeper when maignan was injured, theo has been suggested sold as well and personally i reckon both as the best in their positions or at the very minimum in top 3 in the world.

      2. Bennacer? Nope, he’s been fans favorite immediately since 1st season.

Leao? We all could see his raw talent since day 1, even he scored a magical goal vs Fiorentina (if I’m not mistaken). What he lacked was stability and interest in games.

Tonali? Even he committed number of mistakes, and pretty stiff overall, but we could see his grit and determination. We can’t say the same with CdK’s case.

Just look at the most recent cases, even Hauge produced more in his 1st season, but where’s he now? The only difference is that we didn’t shower him with 30 mil. The only thing that keeps us hoping and expecting more from CdK is as simple as the fact that we put so much money on him.

        1. In regard of hauge i didn’t oppose his sale and i deffently recognize cdks talent far higher than the norwegians regardless of his better outcome than cdk.

          1. Due to the fact that he only costed $4.8 mil. If he costed us $30 mil (and all of the times consumed in the lengthy negotiation), we’ll have a different point of view. That’s the whole point.

          2. I get we are talking about different sums of money invested but we are also talking about a far bigger talent. Hauge has played 328 minutes in the jupiler league this season over 17 games and has done squat there. Thats less than four full matches, quite the difference. cdk has at least proven himself there and the guy has talent several big clubs has shown interest in him so i would personally give him a year more to prove himself.
In the end though its just a matter of opinons and i actually do believe he still can become a great success for us and even be one of the best aquistions we have made recently but it might just not happen this season, There is obviously also the chance that it wont happen but if i were to bet my money on either id say its a matter of time before we see some outcome. I will add though as a final remark that he started out well and after his first ten matches or something should have had 5 assists but he is team mates kept squandering the open chances he created for them.

        1. Yeah juro patience is needed with him and im fairly sure he will become a success story for us but by then people will magically have forgotten their previous stances of contempt for the player.

      3. If AC Milan can get 80-90 % their money back from CDK ( money they pay to brugge ) , i personally say better sell him but if just 50-70% money back better growing him back next season.CDK position mostly as striker or SS in brugge while in ACM we dont use SS and striker we have giroud/ibra . It will be hard for CDK unless we change formation to 352 or 442. If we can get 28-30m euro for CDK , i personally use that money to buy jonathan david or rasmuss for origi replacement

  6. Daniel Maldini basically has all the same qualities but is actually an AM and wing and is making things happen playing for Spezia.

Zaniolo is now 2 goals and an assist from 4 appearances playing mainly as an AM for Galatasary (he got his assist while appearing as a RW for the first time). It should be 2 or 3 assists, too, but for a few really bad misses by team mates in his first appearance. He’s finding the finishing touch that has alluded him.

Sell CDK for >€22, use that money as the bulk of the fee for Zaniolo who’s the starting AM next season with Maldini as cover for AM, LW, SS and even RW.

  7. When I see the comment section, I think AC Milan has one of the most stupid fans I’ve ever seen.
This guy just needs time. Leao needed 2 whole seasons to get good…other players like Tonali, Bennacer Theo, Kessié, Calhanoglu did in their first season/s bad aswell.
Those apes here are — oohhh ooga booga, CdK isn’t playing good in his FIRST season duuuhhhh SELLLL HIM!!
    srsly..just stupid ppl..clueless.

    1. One key difference there, genius, is that those players were all played in position.

CDK made a name for himself as a striker/false 9 and is at sea playing as an AM.

  8. I am still a believer in CDK. He simply hasn’t got a run of games to be adapting quickly. You can’t simply grasp a new league playing what 10minutes per game, and usually that was when the game has already been decided too.

Has he even completed a 90 minutes game yet? The worrying part is that he can’t even crack the first team when we’re playing against Empoli, while resting Leao/Giroud/Diaz. I understand Pioli chose Origi as he’s a more natural striker of the two, though we all know how it ended. However, the lack of trust must be quite palpable and gets reflected in his performance thus far.

I think Pioli must tinker on how to use him best. Playing in a different position, in a different (more difficult) league, with a different country, culture and language barrier must be taken into account; considering he’s bought as a long term investment.

For me, it has been disappointing and underwhelming, yet, I am still willing to see what he can do next season, in which hopefully he would have settled better.

  9. If we sell one of the best european prospects for less than 50m just because he doesn’t perform in his first season then we are truly clueless.

  10. More high-end discussion on Sempremilan. Sempre. Let’s cut to the chase. The discussion on whether CDK is a bust or will come good, and the various camps in support of those positions, are rendered moot when it’s obvious that we’re better when we play with three CMs, I.e. Tonali, Bennacer and Krunic, and Diaz (or whoever) as RW, regardless whether it’s a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. In other words, sell CDK and sign a striker, a RW and a good CM to add the CM rotation. Forget the traditional trequartista altogether.

  11. CDK will suffer same fate as Paquetá, while Pobega can be related to Locatelli, and Yacine Adli just like Cristante got no chance at all.. lucky Leão & Kessié can play all matches even playing like shit.. allowing them to improve and adapting to the team plus got to play without pressure during pandemic and no competition on their position.. Pioli didnt have courage to play them until there is no other option in thier position.. they will be rotten in the bench.. but i didnt blame pioli, milan are puzzling between management that wanna develope players and Fans that are glory hunter..
