Leonardo: “Higuain? He has to make a decision and actually do something for this team”

AC Milan director Leonardo discussed Gonzalo Higuain’s form and delivered some updates on the mercato during Lucas Paqueta’s unveiling.

He spoke to the media during the presentation of Paqueta, who has officially arrived from Flamengo and could feature as soon as Saturday.

Leonardo did not hold back on key issues, including a blunt assessment of Higuain’s current struggles.

Higuain is currently on loan from Juventus in a deal which has a €36m option to buy, but Premier League side Chelsea have been linked with a January bid.

“He has to make a decision and take on his share of the responsibility,” said Leo.

“Not this continual yes, no, I’m not sure. He had a tough moment, he has to put it behind him and get to work.

“There’s no point following rumours and gossip. He is here right now. Seeing as he is here, he needs to get down and actually do something for this team.

“A goal can change things, but if he is to continue here, he needs to take on responsibility.”

Leonardo also discussed rumours that Fabio Borini could leave for Shenzhen FC, and speculation Alen Halilovic is in talks with Besiktas.

“We received no formal offers for Borini or Halilovic. There are 30 players in the squad, clearly someone has to leave. Riccardo Montolivo? We’ll see.

“Time passes by and meanwhile we are losing opportunities. It’s unlikely they’ll give us any real indications on Friday. We can work on loan deals with options to buy, but not everyone is prepared to accept that.”
