L’Equipe: Galtier meeting scheduled as Milan value background with Leao and Maignan

AC Milan are expected to appoint a new manager at the end of this season as Stefano Pioli’s tenure has come to an end. Christophe Galiter is one of the candidates, according to a report, having worked with Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan in the past.

According to the French outlet L’Equipe, as cited by MilanNews, Milan have scheduled a meeting with the entourage of Galtier for next week. The Frenchman is currently the manager of Al Duhail in Qatar after his PSG tenure came to an abrupt end, keen on managing a big club again.

He won the league with PSG in his first season but parted ways following the racism scandal, allegations he subsequently was acquitted of in court. In addition to his playing style (using a 4-.2-3-1 formation) and obvious experience at the top, his background also plays in his favour.

When he was the manager of Lille, he worked with the likes of Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan, winning the league with the club in 2020-21. The Portuguese winger had left the club at that point, joining Milan in the summer of 2019, but Galtier helped him make the most of his potential.

Furthermore, as the report concludes, Galtier is a friend of Theo Hernandez’s family after playing with the full-back’s father at Toulouse. Should Milan move for a target such as Jonathan David, currently at Lille, Galtier’s candidacy could grow even stronger.

Milan have several candidates on their list, though, so nothing has been decided.

  1. Galtier has been on my list for quite sometime. Still remember how his Lille dismantled us to pieces at San Siro when we had a really decent run back then (we only lost 2 matches for the whole half season). His pressing and team aggressiveness on that match was really something else.

All the out-of-the-field issue aside, maybe our french connection will get even more successful with a french coach.

      1. Yes clearly remembered that too. Single handedly. One of the reasons why I backed up the idea of him to Milan. Such a waste when he went to PSG.
