L’Equipe: Maignan set to miss Salernitana clash with new injury

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is set to miss the final game of the season against Salernitana thanks to a finger injury, a report claims.

As has been reporetd by the French newspaper L’Equipe (via Milan News), Maignan may have played his last game of the season as a new finger injury is expected to keep him aout of Saturday’s match against Salernitana.

Maignan has been absent recently due to a muscular injury and he was expected to make his return in time for the clash at San Siro which is the last game of the season for the Rossoneri.

Instead, Marco Sportiello is set to continue between the sticks and Maignan will be watching from the sidelines.

Maignan is set to undergo further tests on his hand today to find out the true extent of his injury, as the French goalkeeper will have Euro 2024 in mind. The final decidison by Didier Deschamps is not going to made until June 7 so Maignan will have two weeks to recover.

The injury will only add to some of the exasperation around Maignan and his injury record this seaosn, which has been extensive for a goalkeeper. Given the transfer speculation around him, it is not implausible that he has played his last game for the club.

  1. Huh, what else is new?
I’ve never seen more Injury prone goalkeeper. And he wants 8 million a year!?!
Call Bayern and try to get 40-50 mil, if it’s even possible to get that much, before they go and sign Mamardashvili from Valencia.
If not Bayern, maybe some Saudi club will want to pay that for him. I saw a report that Ederson might leave ManCity to go to the Saudi league.
Mike is a Top goalkeeper, but if he can’t stay healthy, none of it matters.

  2. He is one of the few (if not only) players I’d be willing to put on the market. He is injury prone and 8M a year is too much for a goalie.
40-50M from him will allow us to go for a good signing without having to sell anyone else and without even affecting the budget.

    1. Right, because clubs and players or their agents put out official reports to notify the media and the fans of how much money a player is asking during contract negotiations.😅

    2. Don’t forget, this lot say Fonseca to Milan is media invention but they believe these reports about Maignan demanding 8 millions. As the wind blows.

  3. Even if it’s 40mill cashout on Magic Mike and move on, it will only get worse, and to think he is asking for a bumper contract.

  4. Yeah It’s not an injury. The match doesn’t matter and he’s called up by the euros. He’s just using his last “injury” as an excuse…

  5. Regardless of how much he is asking for, he is still injury prone and has also been somewhat lacking between the sticks in his last few games.
If a decent offer comes in, let him go

  6. He was taking a part in training with the group. He is fit enough to play. Doesn’t make sense to take chances in a meaningless game right before the EURO’s…

Might as well just come out and say: “Eff this game – I’m not missing the EURO’s for this”

    1. Very hard to compare over different eras, but Dida was one of the best of his time. But again, nowadays the game is far more complex strategy-wise and that affects GK as well.

      1. I am a big Dida fan and he was beyond great for us. But boy did he produce some massive blunders, not too irregularly. He could make the difficult look easy and the easy look difficult.
Compared to Dida, I see Maignan as completely injury prone, but less error prone and the way he plays with his feet is otherworldly. Dida arguably a better shot stopper due to his size.

        1. Maignan without injuries, which are probably the reason for lacking consistency this season, would easily be top 3 worldwide. He definitely was in the scudeto season. However, at one point I had a small heart attack everytime he touched his socks or calf during game. Curious if the issue is not in his training routine. After all half of our squad is injury prone since always…

  7. Sell before he injures the hand that signs contracts.

This guy is the equivalent of a boxer with a glass jaw.

Princess Peach has a better constitution and injury record than this guy – and he wants 8 mil to be an injury victim.

He’s either the most injury prone GK in the world or he just wants to leave really bad.
