Romano: Barcelona star Lewandowski causing internal divide at Milan – the reasons

AC Milan have not reached a unanimous verdict within the management on whether to go for Robert Lewandowski, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Milan are looking for someone who guarantees goals ahead of the 2026-27 season and what will hopefully be a return to the Champions League, given the six points required to seal a top four spot. There are arguably few players who have scored in their career like Lewandowski.

After making his debut in Poland, he joined Borussia Dortmund in 2010, where he scored his first 103 goals in major European tournaments. Four years later, he moved to Bayern Munich as a free agent, scoring 344 goals in Bavaria, while he has 118 for Barcelona who he joined in 2022.

Lewandowski generates divide at Milan

So, Lewandowski is naturally a target for Milan. Romano gave a video update on his YouTube channel about a number of different players that have been linked with Serie A in the past few weeks and he commented on Lewandowski too. MilanNews relayed his words.

“It has been written that Pini Zahavi, Lewandowski’s agent, was at San Siro for Milan-Juventus. With the utmost respect, I can tell you that the agent was not in Milan this weekend,” he said.

“Zahavi is out of Europe at the moment, so Lewandowski’s future is not a discussion that was brought forward this weekend, but he will be in Italy soon. He was not at San Siro for Milan-Juventus but this could be the all-Italian battle for the future of the Pole.

“Milan is a bit divided internally, they have not yet activated everything regarding this operation because first of all there is the costs to understand and then obviously there are question marks related to his age.

“Juventus have spoken to his agents on several occasions to understand the situation, but there is no offer. Lewandowski has important offers from the Saudi Pro League and the MLS, and let’s not forget the renewal offer from Barça, just one year, at a low price, not convincing. Soon Zahavi will arrive Milan, but he wasn’t present for Milan-Juventus.”

  1. What Milan needs a longer term approach to this problem. This stop gap way of doing things is not helpful for sustainability. Get Ramos who is 24 and has no physical conditions as the reference point and look for a 2nd CF who doesn’t have ambitions to be the first choice striker like Lewandowski. Whoever is prepared to take a support role should be considered alongside Ramos (not sure if Sorloth fits this profile). If not keep Giminez as the backup, im sure there will be plenty of games for proper rotation. Just do not bring somebody who will be around for one or two seasons and we have to restart the process.

    1. Totally agree with you. Ramos should be #1 priority. If you ask me I wouldn’t mind Zaniolo. Keep Leao, Pulisic. Bring Zaniolo, Ramos. Sell Gimenez, Nkunku.

      1. Can they afford a backup for what they’ll get selling Gimenez? I don’t believe they can afford to keep both Leao and Pulisic because of the lost revenue from a sale and neither one wants to be on the bench for big games- I don’t blame them either. That’s why Nkunku should stay as a back up. I never understood why they let Tammy go and then go out and play all this money for Nkunku. If you had to pay Roma some money to keep him and get Saelemaekers that would have been smarter. But no one has ever accused ACM of being smart. I am debating getting rid of my Paramount+ for next year as it seems masochistic to pay money to suffer this level of pain watching ACM.

        1. “But no one has ever accused ACM of being smart.” Hahaha You nailed it, bro! Of course,
one of Pulisic or/and Leao gotta to go, I bet
on Leao because he seriously suffers in this
3-5-2 formation. You are right about Tammy
          and Nkunku too, of course.

      1. agree.. 16/25 goals is better than all of our FW, some will say he play for AEK Athens, Serie A isn’t that big either,
Luka is 28, experienced here, no big injury problem, always try his best & never complain
