Mattia Liberali’s AC Milan future has been up in the air for some times now, and it appears that a resolution is very close.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Catanzaro are very close to signing Liberali from Milan. The Serie B club are currently working with the player’s agent, Alessandro Lucci, to finalise his arrival in what would be a permanent deal. The Rossoneri would retain 50% of the proceeds in any future sale.

The Catanzaro head coach Alberto Aquilani believes strongly in the player, and he would arrive as part of an ambitious summer plan. This has made the difference because Lucci himself believes a proper project is needed to help the youngster flourish.
Nicolo Schira adds: “Mattia Liberali to Catanzaro from AC Milan is at the final stage without a transfer fee. Milan will have 50% on the future sale. Last details about the term of the contract (until 2028 or 2029).”
The path to goodbye
Last season, Liberali played mainly for the Primavera and for Milan Futuro in Serie C, but also with the first team with which he made his Serie A debut and with which he began his pre-season tour.
He is one of the most interesting young players on the Italian scene and could therefore get a chance in Serie B with Catanzaro. Parma and Empoli were also interested in him, but have fallen behind in the race.
In 2024-25, which came after winning the Under 17 European Championship with Italy, Liberali got his first close contact with senior football, even though he played most of his matches with the Primavera.
He had less playing time with the Futuro, but still played 10 senior games. He also made one appearance in Serie A, starting at San Siro against Genoa. He is with the squad for the summer tour, but could depart soon.
Can we have an offer of first refusal, plus maybe a buyback clause cus this kid is a gem from the few pre-season flashes from last season.

Milan management could do better by giving our talented youth player a better and promising future selling them to ab small ambitious club even though they don’t see them good enough for the first team.
Liberali deserve better. He’s talented skilled and Amper room for growth.
A top club like Barcelona and Madrid won’t react him like this. We see what they did with Diaz and even Teams like Benfica and club brugge won’t give him out for peanuts

Well, if he’s not going to sign with us then this is probably the best we can do. It’s not a good look that we can’t convince him to stay though. Enjoy Atalanta when you’re 20.
A 15 million Futuro project was just another empty hype by RedBird.
In next year they will sell him for 8 or 10m and Milan will settle with 50% and after 2 or 3 season we will regret it what a dumb management
This seems ok given the situation. I’m not impressed by this kids or his agents approach to this situation. Seems like trouble down the road. However 50% resale gives Milan a huge advantage if they try to buy him back if he turns to gold.
Here’s the thing about young talents, they are common. 10% chance he becomes great, 40% he’s average, 50% he’s a bust.

we should have put in a buy-back as well – and some protection in case they do a player swap or a cheaper fee plus a sell-on for themselves
the 50% future resale model if effectively like the old co-ownership model that was banned.
Milan will still have strong stake in his future and the chance to buy back at a discounted rate.
If it was a straight dry loan then there is a lot less incentive for the serie b club to invest time and resources into the player.
Having a 50% sales clause is like owing 50% right of the player. He is almost half a Milan player on loan. If he turns out good, and a team comes to 30 million, Milan only need to pay 15 million to get him back. It’s not all lost. This is what I was hoping for. Having 50% of his sales.
