Mattia Liberali has said that his physical status was one of the key reasons behind leaving AC Milan last summer, opting for a period of growth in Serie B.
Liberali decided to leave Milan last summer, joining Catanzaro on a free transfer as he only had one year left on his contract with the Rossoneri. In exchange, they secured a 50% future resale clause, which is why there was no immediate transfer fee involved.

It’s an exit that upset a lot of fans as the attacking midfielder was seen as one of the most talented players to ever come through the youth ranks. The way in which it happened, i.e. a contractual situation coming in the way, definitely didn’t sit right with many.
That said, Liberali was a major cause of the decision as well since he was ultimately the one who decided to leave. This is something that he confirmed in a recent interview, highlighting the need for growth as a major part of that decision.
Was your physical condition one of the reasons you didn’t renew your contract with AC Milan?
“Well, yes. The opportunity to join Catanzaro emerged in the summer, and I took it. My agent and I spoke with director Polito and coach Aquilani. They had a great project. And Serie B is a very formative league for a young player like me,” he told SportWeek (via MilanNews).
This season, Liberali has three goals and four assists to his name, but his contributions on the pitch have really warranted more. Indeed, he has been a constant source of creativity, just like we saw when he played at Milan.

Disgusting Redbird. Disgusting fanbase.
What did the fanbase do?
What was ACM to do in this situation? One year left on his contract and didn’t want to extend. He knew he wasn’t ready for Serie A ball.
What’s the fanbase have to do with it? lol
Settle down. He wasn’t going to learn anything sitting on the bench. Barteshagi was given a chance and took it.
He just did a great job by going to serie B than being a bench warmer or play in bullshit futuro at milan.
Playing regurarly in serie B is way better for his development than staying at bench or playing in futuro.
Hopefully he will grow to be better player and be back to milan someday
He’s too small. Unless a short player has incredible technique, balance and pace, they’re not going to make it.
