The Municipal Council of the San Donato Milanese area has turned down the idea of a popular referendum on AC Milan’s new stadium being in the area.
As has been reported by Libero (via Calciomercato.com), the local authority in the San Donato area does not want to use a popular referendum to decide whether Milan will build their new stadium in that area or not.
As things stand, San Donato is the most likely destination for Milan to be building a stadium but Mayor Francesco Squeri has been very clear that he does not want such a complex issue to be decided by a referendum.
“A programme of this magnitude cannot pass through a simple ‘stadium yes or stadium no’ question. That would be too reductive. There would also be the risk of a vote of gut, and not of conscience,” he said.
Many things have to be taken into account when it comes to welcoming one of the biggest football clubs in the world into your area, which makes the decision understandable, especially given there are still so many unknowns about how the stadium would be built and accessed.
Lol
Smart guy. Allowing people to vote on most of the things is usually stupid. You can sway people one way so easily, especially the less intelligent bunch…
It’s a patch between highway junctions, who’s going to be bothered? Besides they have whole project ready with lots of green parks and sports areas for common folks. If it goes through as planned this will be one if the greatest sports districts around the globe🤞
this Milan has no stadium plan in mind, san Sesto mayor called Milan but turning deaf ears before he left the position as a mayor
