Romano: Lille striker will now cost €65m amid rumours he is a serious target for Milan

The price tag of Jonathan David continues to rise along with his goal tally for Lille amid rumours that he is a summer target for AC Milan.

According to what is being reported by Fabrizio Romano, as things stand at the moment the asking price to sign Jonathan David this summer will be around €65m. He added that Lille ‘expect top clubs to move’ for the Canadian striker.

David scored again today in Lille’s 2-1 victory against Montpellier which takes him up to 20 Ligue 1 goals during the 2022-23 season so far, meaning he is the joint-top scorer in the league together with Kylian Mbappé.

Tuttosport (via SempreMilan.it) reported late last month that David is at the top of the list of targets compiled by Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara in view of the summer. A younger striker is needed given Olivier Giroud will turn 37 this year, Zlatan Ibrahimovic could retire and Divock Origi has disappointed.

  1. Jonathan David is extremely overrated. Even in in YouTube reels, he looks slow and clumsy overall. He also doesn’t fit what Milan need in the attack. We need more speed and technique from the nr. 9

    1. I don’t necessarily think we need speed at our number 9 but we either go speed and technique or we go big strong pointman and David is neither so I 100% agree that he’s very very overrated and I don’t think he’d help us that much. He’d be better than what we have but not a top striker which is what we need.

    2. Jonathan David is just as over-rated as old man Kylian Mbappe. To make things interesting, instead of sending David to AC Milan, swap David for Mbappe. Surely Mbappe would easily win the scoring title if he played for Lille. With all the talent on PSG, David would surely perform worse at PSG, right?

    3. You are probably right. SLOW Jonathan David would perform poorly in a retirement league like La Liga. And surely no Lille players could thrive in La Liga. Just examine how consistently terrible Ex-Lille player Victor Osimhen has performed for a loser like Napoli. David does not even know when and where to position himself on the field. It is why he never scores any goals.

  2. all of you guys are wrong about david , you can check the previous seasons and u can see that he scores 15+goals even hes team overall doesnt do well so really imagine how he could prolly play with better team milan at last hojlund for me is one season wonder soooooo we need goals david is the answer plus anyone we got from losc lille they all worked out soooo JONATHAN DAVID strength good speed oerfect shoot

  3. we don’t need speed, what is the essence of origi speed. David possesses a good shooting ability and accuracy and accuracy is what we need. we only need speed at the wing. also good in build up

  4. Romano are reliable source. 65m euro too much for jonathan . Time to find other striker profile. Perhaps rasmuss / balogun/ gift urban ?
