Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa has admitted that he enjoyed watching AC Milan while he was growing up.
Chiesa is a player that has been linked with Milan every transfer window for the past few years. The speculation intensified in the summer mercato as Samuel Chukwueze and Noah Okafor were allowed to leave, while the Italian forward struggled to forge a key role at Anfield.
Nonetheless, this season things have picked up under Arne Slot. Chiesa is playing more despite the attacking additions Liverpool made, and any notion of a potential return to Serie A has been kicked down the line for now.
Chiesa gave an interview to Sky Sports (via LFC) discussing various topics, including the choice between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the playing time he has had with the Reds (two goals and three assists so far this season) and who he admired growing up.
Who would feature in your Italian football ‘Mount Rushmore’?
“Oh my days! I’ll go [Paolo] Maldini, [Roberto] Baggio. I have to say a ’keeper… [Gianluigi] Buffon. Let’s go for a midfielder… [Andrea] Pirlo.”
Did you have an idol growing up?
“Yeah, I did, it was Kaka. Because I liked to watch AC Milan when I was growing up, with my father. I was just looking at Milan and I fell in love with Kaka.”

Sounds right to me as his father Enrico has also previously professed that he dreamt about joining AC Milan and that he had a poster of Van Basten on his wall so it seems right that he has been showing a lot of AC Milan matches to his son.
Both excellent players Enrico and Federico.
It really shows how important keeping those kind of star players are for the long term popularity of the club.
I agree I always liked both players at least unless we played against them 😀
Absolutely.
If so, then why has he not come to play for us
Obviously I can only speculate on why but you do realize that when Juventus initially loaned him they paid 12.6 mil euros for the loan with an obligation to buy at 44.6 mil euros. Doesn’t really seem like it was within the margins of our transfers as he would have become an all-time most expensive player ever bought by us and that is even without considering our wage cap that at that point of time was even lower than today.
There were negotiations already. Maldini could’ve pulled a Tonali with him. He chose Juventus and he said it. He is politician. His career is down spiraling. Allegri is back at Milan. All of a sudden, I am a Milan fan.
