Naby Keita

Report claims Liverpool midfielder could follow Origi and join Milan on a Bosman

AC Milan want to sign Naby Keita on a free transfer once his contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season, a report claims.

According to the Mirror, Milan will ‘step up their interest’ in signing Keita as he looks set to leave Anfield on a Bosman as his contract is up at the end of the season and he is no longer a big part of the club’s planned.

Liverpool signed the 27-year-old from RB Leipzig in 2018 for £51.6million (€58.4m now) in what was a club record deal, but he has never really hit the heights expected due to injury problems and now he can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.

Jurgen Klopp is ‘unlikely to stand in his way’ as well as he knows there is a need to overhaul the midfield. Keita has amassed 127 appearances for the Reds, scoring 11 goals, but only in two seasons has he made 30 or more appearances in all competitions.

The Guinea international could therefore follow the same path as Divock Origi as the Belgian moved to the Rossoneri last summer on a free transfer.

  1. Maldini has a thing for injury prone players.
Florenzi, Origi, Renato Sanches, Zaniolo now Naby Keita.
While he is at it, might as well go and sign Pato

  2. Are we trying to I break the record for most injured team for the last and next decade ? Cus I don’t understand Maldini and his love for injury prone players.

  3. Cant argue with these comments. Hes good if he gets a run of games, but he doesn’t stay fit long enough to achieve this. Like SheerWill96, we should get Firminio.

  4. As a bosman ? Better yet benchwamer and injury prone why would anyone want him? Also Leipzig make last minute chance and Liverpool reject it because they don’t have too many options for midfielder so as it right now we are safe

    1. Quite possible, with the budget that will be available and needing to sign a midfielder, RW, cover left back and a few more positions if loan players aren’t signed, how will they get it?

They have to sign whatever will be available for free. I expect him to join and Lucas Moura as well, with Moura actually being good. Either that or more loans of potential players without experience that can’t play first team if we are fighting for the title…

  5. He is a fantastic player if he is trusted by his coach to do his thing: dribble past plays from the center and drive.
Klopp never granted him that freedom, as he wanted his interiors to do defensive work in the mold of Henderson and Winaldum. Keita was never that player, that’s why he doesn’t look good when he plays.
Klopp destroyed his potential. In Milan he might resurrect himself.
The injuries is another thing, but might also be confidence-related.
