Libero: Obstacle emerges for Milan as local residents oppose La Maura idea

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will have to battle opposition if they are to eventually get everything approved in their La Maura new stadium plan, a report claims.

According to Libero (via Calciomercato.com), the district has a residential vocation, where there is harmonious balance from an architectural point of view and for there is no interest in break the balance with the construction of a new stadium.

That of the residents who enter and leave the Cappelli and Sforza municipal gyms is a unanimous chorus against the idea of the new stadium as per the paper, with them seeing is as important to the inhabitants of the area to preserve one of the few green spaces in the city.

“We have a lot of greenery here, what will happen with the new stadium? They will have to remove it to make room for parking and all football-related activities,” one lady said.

The urban and social redevelopment of the area will be another issue that must be dealt with as there are football fields and public gardens that could well be affected by work, and again the residents want to protect them.

“The other night we had a public meeting and practically we were all against the stadium. It hasn’t been decided yet,” one woman said.

Meanwhile Snaitech – the company that takes care of horse training and racing at the Hippodrome – has announced that the land is currently unavailable unless negotiations are to be carried out with the potential new owner.

The whole area has recently been redeveloped and now they would have to tear everything down again to make the new stadium, which residents see as baffling.
