Loftus-Cheek discusses Atalanta clash plus differences between English and Italian football

By Ben Dixon -

Ahead of AC Milan’s Coppa Italia quarter-final clash against Atalanta on Wednesday evening, Ruben Loftus-Cheek spoke about the differences between English and Italian football and gave his thoughts about the upcoming fixture.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has consistently been a player who has always looked classy, but injuries have always seemed to hold a vice over his career. However, since his move to Milan in the summer, his class has shone – and he has brought a new skillset to Stefano Pioli’s midfield.

Following his goal on Sunday against Empoli, he is only growing as a player as the season unravels, with Pioli yo-yo-ing between using him as an attacking central midfielder or deploying him behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1.

The Englishman is widely expected to start against La Dea on Wednesday evening, and it is hoped that he can assist the Rossoneri in entering the semi-final of the Coppa Italia as the side looks for revenge after their 3-2 loss against the Bergamo outfit in December.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was interviewed by Sportsmediaset and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

What are the differences between English and Italian football?

“After being here six months, it is clear to me that Italian football is more tactical and it is a very difficult league. All the teams are tactically organised with and without the ball to make every game complicated. I accepted the challenge to continue to play as much as possible in a fantastic league.”

Thoughts ahead of Milan-Atalanta…

“A footballer wants to win every game, but sometimes it is not possible. We are very excited about the challenge against Atalanta, especially after we lost against them in the league. So we have the opportunity to play against them again and get a win. We are motivated.”

Thoughts on Ibrahimovic…

“He is an idol here at AC Milan. Since he returned to the group he has spoken to us and I completely agree with him that at this club we want to win every game in the best possible way and win trophies. I think that’s the minimum goal for a team like Milan.”
