MN: Loftus-Cheek’s priority is and always has been Milan renewal after January rumours

It seemed Ruben Loftus-Cheek was heading to the door in January. However, the Englishman instead preferred to stay at AC Milan.

Throughout January, there was enough to suggest that Loftus-Cheek was going to leave Milan. He reportedly wanted more playing time, which the Rossoneri could not give him, so he could get a spot in England’s World Cup squad.

Options were aplenty too, with a few Premier League clubs showing interest, whilst Italian and German teams also considered taking a punt on the midfielder. However, he rejected an exit, with his intentions now clear.

Loftus-Cheek’s position

As MilanNews reports, after the confirmation of the renewal situation this morning, Loftus-Cheek is prioritising a future with the Diavolo, and this has been the case for a while now. This is shown in the fact that the parties have already begun renewal talks.

Things are positive and there is even hope of an agreement within the next few months. A few bits still need to be clarified, such as the expiration date, but it seems that an agreement until 2030 is likely at this moment.

There is time in hand, too, considering his deal expires next summer. However, strengthening their position now is only a good thing for all parties.

  1. Not sure what this article is about? RLC has already been called to the England team and has been playing fairly regularly either starting or off the bench. Seems like enough game time, considering the amount of options available to Allegri.

  2. It’s obvious he stayed because if he moved it would mean he’d have to worked to get into whichever squad he went to ie start the process all over. With Milan seeing as he got called up by England means he can get a call up in the future (doesn’t have to be in the prem) AND he started to get some game time. So a win for him. Not sure about us but it’s def a better strategy for him
