Ruben Loftus-Cheek spoke to the media after AC Milan’s 3-1 defeat to Roma. While he admitted that it’s a very difficult situation, he also made it clear that the Rossoneri have a lot of potential.
It was an uphill battle from the start as Roma took the lead after just three minutes. Then, in the 21st minute, Santiago Gimenez was sent off for a silly elbow on Gianluca Mancini. The fact that the Rossoneri even got an equaliser, as such, was commendable.
Loftus-Cheek spoke at the press conference after the game, as captured by MilanNews, and shared his thoughts on the result. When asked about the future, he stated that the Rossoneri team has great potential to achieve a lot of success.
Milan will not play in Europe next year, what is your analysis?
“It’s a really difficult situation for us. It was an opportunity to finish the season with a win and go to Europe. We are certainly sad about the result. It was a difficult season for the team, from several points of view.”
More problems on or off the pitch?
“Sometimes there are difficult moments, and in general, these are for different reasons. Individual, but not just that. I also had problems. I had a bad season physically and mentally.”
Let’s talk about next season. How do you see it?
“Honestly, I think this team has great potential. Now it’s about showing that we are mentally strong and can continue to believe in ourselves. I really believe that this group can achieve great things. It was a difficult season, but we still managed to win a trophy and come close to a second, despite the difficult moments.
“Next season will be a completely new season. We will leave all this behind us, work hard in a training camp, focus on being at our best physically and mentally. We certainly won’t carry this year’s disappointments into next season.”
Following tonight’s result, Milan are now officially out of European football for next season and that says everything about the huge failure. Not only was the Champions League their target ahead of the season, but also the Scudetto…
Yeah sure. Going from UCL semifinals to 9th in Serie A in two years. The sky is the limit.
Clearly Cardinale and his crew know what they’re doing, right? 😀 😀 😀 😀
Bloody arse null potential
Bring in five more avg b2bs to play all the midfield positions this summer
Next season you’re hopefully not here… we sold tonali for this guy and musah btw
I hope conceicao and there one of Loanies woud remain as first ACM squad.
These kind of results being personal for ACM
Forza Milan
“Now it’s about showing that we are mentally strong and can continue to believe in ourselves. ”
The thing is… You can’t fake it. If they really were strong mentally, they wouldn’t have taken so many idiotic red cards this season. They wouldn’t have forfeited the UCL in the last 2 rounds & in the playoffs. They wouldn’t have drawn home against Genoa or severely wounded Juve and lost to e.g. Parma.
Perhaps Milan had the quality needed to win Inter & Real etc., but failing 75% of the matches this season proved they seriously lack “mental strength”. And that’s something that cannot be bought.
