Loftus-Cheek laments ‘very sloppy’ start but insists Milan are ‘very confident’ about Roma return leg

By Oliver Fisher -

Ruben Loftus-Cheek believes that AC Milan fell victims to a bad start against Sassuolo this afternoon, but ultimately did well to battle back and earn a draw.

It was an awful start for Milan who were all at sea at the back. Andrea Pinamonti opened the scoring and Armand Lauriente doubled the advantage for the home side, but Rafael Leao’s solo run halved the deficit going into the break.

Lauriente restored the two-goal lead early in the second half to give Milan another big hill to climb, uet goals from Luka Jovic and Noah Okafor secured a point and there were even chances to go on and win it.

The 3-3 draw means that the gap to Juventus in third place remains six points, though Inter can clinch the Scudetto next week with a win in the derby.

Loftus-Cheek spoke to Milan TV to comment on the match in Reggio Emilia and his statements were transcribed by MilanNews.

How do you judge the game today?

“We didn’t start in a good way. We could have avoided the goals. For our standards it was very sloppy but credit to us, the way we came back away from home… we’ve done it a few times now, going down and then coming back to win the game or like today draw the game.

“Let’s look at the positives. We’ve come back from a two-goal deficit and got the draw. But let’s not be too down about the last couple of results. We’ve got a big game coming up and we need to be positive and ready for that.”

The gap to Juventus remains six points, is this one of the positives?

“Exactly. Yes we’re second in the league and have a chance to go through in the Europa League so as I said, let’s not get too down about the last couple of results, we’re in a good place and I think we are all very confident about Thursday. We’ll recover, eat well, sleep well and be ready to give everything on Thursday.”

Is this desire shown at the end something to take to Rome?

“Throughout the season when we’ve been down [behind] we’ve always come back and shown fight to win the game. Going to Rome 1-0 down is not so new to us, we’ve had it before and come back so why not be positive going there? And we are. We’re all looking forward to it and we’re very confident and positive about the game.”

  1. The worst attacking midfielder ever in the history of AC Milan, 😆😆😆 Even Zaroli will do better than this useless player in that position, all of you think you have seen an elephant that can’t be intimidated 🤣 I hope you all know this is seria A, is not by how big you are, is technical ability is very low, or you think because he scores ok, maybe you all need to explain his duties that he is not a striker or winger his major work is to be creative, the question is does he deliver? NO. Please pioli is not ready, if he continues to count on Thaiw and ruben Loft check. This two are the worst in the team, my own pain of all is that other players paid heavily for this two mistakes, he started when you all said thaiw is better than Kalulu 😅😅😅 I laughed like a baby, … Please I can hit my chest that Kalulu is far better than thaiw, then u also decided to use RLC as your attacking midfield 🤣😄, please compared him to all the team in the league on that same position, even Daniel Maldini is better than him statistically in that same position this year. Simic and zeroli can replace this two perfectly .

    1. My good friend I disagree with your opinion. Please check well you will see how RLC is been used in this particular role he is playing as an attacking midfielder and a striker. He does not have any free time to breath always running deep into the 18 box to attack and running back to defend and he is doing very well. Please be mindful that such role is a difficult one. He is two in one a midfielder and a striker at the same time. At end of the day he almost covers every part of the field coupled with his goal. It is goals that decides a win in a football match and he has 10 goals ever since he joined AC MILAN in September last year if am right. Kalulu is battling with injuries let us wish him a speedy recovery so he returns. Have blessed day my friend.
