In addition to losing the game late on, there was another negative note for AC Milan on Sunday as Ruben Loftus-Cheek had to be stretchered off.

As MilanNews recall, Loftus-Cheek had to leave the San Siro pitch just minutes into the match against Parma, taken to hospital on a stretcher and in a neck brace. It was a scene that understandably left team-mates, opponents and even fans a bit shaken.

Fortunately, the Englishman remained conscious after the collision with Corvi, but there was plenty of blood coming from his mouth. Hospital tests confirmed a fracture of the alveolar bone that also caused several broken teeth.

This is a very serious injury that requires surgery and, contrary to initial reports, this will be performed this morning at the San Paolo Hospital in Milan. Updates on the outcome of the surgery will follow, as well as the recovery time, which is impossible to predict at present given the severity of the injury.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen above) add, Milan’s medical director – Stefano Mazzoni – will be present during the operation. The former Chelsea man arrived at the San Carlo Hospital last night during the match, then was transferred to the San Paolo by specialists.

There are questions about whether his season could be over, given the nature of the injury. Immediately after the injury, but also at half-time and after the match, his team-mates were very worried.

Parma goalkeeper Corvi went to the Milan dressing room after the match, asked for Loftus-Cheek’s phone number and checked on his condition on WhatsApp, wishing him a speedy recovery on his Instagram story too.

The midfielder’s family was promptly contacted to explain the situation. The club also offered immediate support, and we at SempreMilan extend out best wishes to Loftus-Cheek too.

  1. he is nowhere near the ball. his positioning causing this, and he is still moving forward even ball wasn’t going to him. he is NOT a striker playing like a central strike. His inexperience in the position tells all.
nevertheless hope he recover soon. and come back to the field, don’t play like this as a striker please (back to midfield)
