Bennacer returned from his six-month loan at Marseille earlier in the summer and Milan have since been looking for a solution. The Saudi Arabia option never really took off, possibly because the player didn’t want to, and Marseille don’t view him as a priority.

The situation remains very difficult for the Rossoneri, as such, and Bennacer’s annual cost of nearly €9m weighs heavily on the accounts. The hope is that one club will come forward in the final days and according to Gianluigi Longari, that club might be Bologna.
In fact, the Rossoblu have enquired about Bennacer’s situation and it remains to be seen if they will advance with their interest. The salary is likely to be a hurdle, while Milan would also prefer a permanent transfer (although they could accept a lower figure).
