Since the summer mercato, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been a controversial figure at AC Milan. Questions have been asked about his role, his responsibilities, and his readiness for his position, and Gianluigi Longari has taken stock of his current position.

It is not a new thing for questions to be asked of Ibrahimovic, but they have rarely been asked in the current way. Ibrahimovic, a player unafraid to take risks, now a senior part of a football club, yet there are potential doubts about his position.

When he joined Milan for the third time, questions were asked about his level of power, and with him stating he is ‘the boss’ this week, it seems clear. However, this has also come with negative connotations, with reports suggesting there is an internal ‘war’ in the Rossoneri, currently, due to Ibra’s position potentially being abused.

In an editorial for Sportitalia (via Radio Rossonera), Longari spoke about Ibrahimovic’s position and the steps forward he must take if he is to instil confidence in himself.

“In the summer he had gone along with the collective decision to bet on Fonseca, but now he has decided to act himself. It is no mystery that his [Fonseca’s] bench has wobbled a lot, almost to the point of questioning his presence in the Derby. However, he will be given the last possible call to take back the reins of the dressing room.”

“[If Milan fail to win] The Swede’s assumption of responsibility would be obligatory, at present the club is now far removed from the sporting values that have always distinguished it…”

  1. Actually I had this opinion before the worst interview given by the management, the “I don’t allow Gerry to spend money”… but how things unfolded always sat weirdly, since I don’t think Ibra actually believes that Emerson and Fonseca are Milan material…

very confusing, maybe all these articles are just simple PR stunt, maybe we are getting our old lion back… let’s see

  2. For those of you condemning Maldini and think Ibrahimovic will be the Milan Massiah…

Furlani and Moncada should just go, we are tired of shopping from France and ignoring italian and Brazilian talent even Argentina.

They will pursue quality players for a whole month knowing fully sell the cost and salary range and wen to settle for garbage at died minute.

Is that how to build a quality winning team. Is that how Galliani build the milan champions.

Clubs, Presidents, Players, coaches and Agents still give respect and honor to the name Maldini than that of Zlatan.

    1. Galliani was a blithering idiot and ran Milan into the ground. Calciopoli happened while he was league president. Galliani is the one who kept giving contracts to old players and failed to rebuild an ageing squad. Don’t give him credit for Berlusconi’s genius.

Furlani deals with the contracts. Moncada identifies targets. Furlani is doing his job. Moncada is the one who needs to go.

      1. yes, that’s why furlani should go.. because he’s dealing with contract.. how many players that milan missed to sign because of the contract? and look now to theo, maignan contract? look how long it takes to make a deal with them? even leao last year also took long enough and drama.

  3. Honestly, Fonseca is well-spoken and plays progressive football, which is what the management wants. However, I believe Milan should have appointed an elite coach after Pioli. I wanted Fonseca to succeed because I’m a Milan fan, and I always want Milan to win.

  4. I agree. If they end up, firing the coach, then they will basically be admitting that they are a bunch of incompetent idiots. They have had a year to prepare for new coach, and the best they could come up with was Fonseca.
