Longo: Botman ‘enthusiastic’ about Milan move after speaking with Maignan

By Isak Möller -

Sven Botman was the No.1 target for AC Milan during the January transfer window but a transfer never materialised. As a result, the Rossoneri are currently working on bringing in the centre-back this summer.

The Dutch international’s agents were at Casa Milan earlier today (see video here) and as per Fabrizio Romano, it was a ‘positive and direct’ meeting between the parties. In short, Milan are still evidently very keen on signing him.

According to Daniele Longo, there wasn’t necessarily anything new after the meeting, but Botman is ‘enthusiastic’ and he’s pushing for the move. The meeting was positive on the whole and Milan have been working on the operation since December.

He also added that Botman already has spoken with his former Lille teammate Mike Maignan about the move. The goalkeeper seems to be very happy with the Rossoneri and one would have to imagine that he only fueled Botman’s enthusiasm.

    1. I’d prefer “no Botman, yes to Romagnoli”. It would be cheaper and we already know the skipper is good enough.

Save the money for THE RW the club has been missing for a decade.

  1. So not worth it.. renewing Romagnoli is the right call. Captain, defensive leader, in Milan for years. Will take a paycut but not a massive one. Just renew the guy he’s not even old… if you have to lose Romagnoli then fine Botman is good but what’s the point of running something that’s working?? Is it for the foreign tax break we get for Botman but don’t for Alessio?? Likely. Penny pinching management….

    1. Was Tomori worth 30m? Transfermarket now values him at 50m. You think you know better than Maldini whom to pick for the team? Submit your application then…

    2. Romagnoli can be really inconsistent. Plus, his agent is Raiola so maybe he IS asking for a lot of money. Meanwhile, Botman is a defensive gem and too good to lose.

      1. True, the agent point does make a lot of sense, Raiola is awful so maybe you’re right that his demands are actually outrageous.

  2. In football economy, it is wiser to sign a player and pay half the wages that a free agent is requesting.

Players signed with fees have capitation on the balance sheet. Thus they increase the club capital, asset and club valuation.

An expensive free signing for Average players likeRomagnoli, Donnaruma, Kessi or even Hakan will only add cost of wages to the balance sheet without any impact on capital, asset and club valuation.

So I understand my it is more attractive to sign Botman than used the money to keep Romagnoli.

Milan will only renew at high cost for exceptional players like Theo, Leoa, Ibra etc.

Milan focus now is the balance sheet for every move made in the market. I must say that, Milan are currently the best model in football business
