Longo: Calabria will wear the captain’s armband for Milan against Sampdoria

By Isak Möller -

Davide Calabria wore the captain’s armband in AC Milan’s final friendly clash of the pre-season (vs. Panathinaikos) and it’s now been confirmed that he will wear it in the opener against Sampdoria.

Calabria had a very successful 2020/21 season and he’s considered to be one of the best right-backs in the league. His reward for the recent performances is certainly special, as he has been entrusted with the captain’s armband.

Alessio Romagnoli is still the captain but as he will start on the bench tomorrow, Calabria will wear the armband. This was reported by Daniele Longo and this also means that the Italian international is the second-choice captain (not Simon Kjaer).

Franck Kessie has also been mentioned as a candidate but he’s currently injured so there’s no way of knowing if he would’ve worn it otherwise. Either way, Calabria seems like a very good choice by Pioli. Hopefully, they will win tomorrow.
