Mike Maignan is just one step away from joining Chelsea in an €18m deal, and if the latest reports are to be believed, AC Milan fans have CEO Giorgio Furlani to blame for it all.
Since Maignan only has one year left on his contract, one could argue that getting €18m is better than zero. However, considering the quality and true value of the goalkeeper, it’s clear that everyone should be very disappointed with his exit.
There used to be a time when Milan asked for around €80m to part ways with the goalkeeper, and it’s a figure that many clubs seemed willing to pay. Not to mention that he’s still considered to be one of the best in the world, which makes him very difficult to replace.
Furlani pays a heavy price for his words
As reported by Daniele Longo last night, the story gets even more frustrating. After reaching an agreement in principle for a contract renewal at the start of the year, everything was put on hold as Furlani made his now-infamous trip to New York, where he met the owner Gerry Cardinale.

The CEO promised Maignan that the final details for the renewal would be sorted out after his trip to the United States. However, time went by and the goalkeeper never heard anything from the management, resulting in ‘great disappointment’ from the No.16’s side.
In many ways, especially since he had a few tough performances in and around that period, Maignan felt abandoned by the club. As such, when Chelsea came knocking and offered him Premier League football, as well as Champions League football, he owed nothing to Milan.

English Clubs pay way more ,18m ist a Joke for maignan. I Hope Milan are Not so Stupid
Look how Monaco played hard ball for Fofana who was on the last year of his contract but Milan thinks 18m is a fair price for France’s number 1.
The management are so incompetent in negotiating and the Aura is not there the legendary and legacy the love is not there.
Then why is PSG asking 40M for Donnarumma, and would accept under 40M? Last year of contract. Maignan is worth how much some other clubs want to pay, but where are the other offers for the top goalkeeper? It was PSG, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid. Everyone “was interested”. Where are the offers? Not even Man Utd sent a measly 15M offer? Says a lot…
The transferwindow hasn’t even opened yet, only for the club world cup teams. If I’ve understood things correctly.
Just promote Torriani already. Dont waste money on a goalie in this season. It’s going to be wasted anyways.
What an incompetent management, I’ve never thought they would be this pathetic and stupid… This must be stopped before they dismantle entirely our beloved club
You’re absolutely right. That’s what’s going to happen when incompetent people are in charge.
What’s done is done
Incompetence.
18 million sounds a bit low, but not by much. We need to remember his physical issues; every time he goes to the floor you wonder whether he’s coming up. At his age, and his signs of decline, prestige isn’t relevant as much. I’m surprised he hasn’t lost his position in the French NT. Milan can do better
At the very least we need to recognize that Tare is moving fast, not waiting for last minute deals as per usual with our management.
But all and all it looks bleak so far. A fire sale to say the least
I agree. Milan was asking for 25M anyway, it isn’t Chelseas fault Milan started with the lowball request. They just played along.
We will have to pay more for a new goalkeeper than we would’ve extending his contract. Now we will have to pay more than 18 million to get a goalkeeper plus salary.
That is bad business and incompetence.
Yes, he has had injuries and he was out of form. But who was in form for us? Pulisic and Reijnders have good stats this year but weren’t killing it every match were they. Even Leao have decent stats this year. The whole team has been in shambles.
In form he is one of the best goalies in the world.
And Chelsea is one of the richest clubs in Europe.
We are giving away star players for a small sum to rich clubs like City and Chelsea and buying expensive like we did from Monace for Fofana or Gimenez from Feyenoord.
All players have periods when they don’t perform but you have to see the overall quality.
Theo has been tired but still had to play 4000 minutes this season. We never had a decent backup so he could rest and now we believe he has lost everything?
How much does it cost when you have Maignan out for 20 games in Serie A? Do you even understand there is more than 2 variables in this calculation? Honestly, do you? 5 year contract offer at 5M per season for a guy that seems to have injury issues. You don’t have to be an American businessman to understand what is a potential disaster deal for the club…
Milan can get a more reliable goalkeeper. Money shouldn’t be the defining factor, but the team cohesion and competing for the title next year. Maignan wants to leave and is blackmailing the club? Ok, f off. He literally told Chelsea he will join them for free next season and that made them be able to lowball the offer. Rat, thankfully he is out of club. Same as Morata
18 mil for French no 1 GK and Milan’s captain is stupid. The one who handles his contract is even more stupid.
The management has bn pathet6in all ramifications
I only hope that money gotten will be well spent
Not Reinjers has been sold
Maignan sold
Kalulu sold
And sure we are Henenders will be sold
And with the 100millon promised (ud delivered) we shd be able to have funds at our disposal
These funds shd be used very well
However we if not
I think a team in premier league will be supported as my dear Milan is messed up
Good on Furlani, paying him 5m net, as they were reportedly close to, would have been a big mistake.
It’s so rediculous to see all our players requesting to leave, it show how pathetic the management is. Every news everyday signifies the incompetence of the management. That stupid Furlan came out openly saying there’s no reason for sacrificing any big player and here we are all our players at about to be sacrificed. One thing that got me excited about Allegri Appointment is that he is a big player coach, so why allowing them all to leave after his appointment? This is early stage defeat aswear.
Maignan it’s one of the best GK for these day. Even he better than donnarumma. Great disappoint for Milan management. Really clowns management, can’t manage how and good time to sell and buy the players. Maignan at least can make some bank 30m and reijnders at least minimum 70m. How poorest it is..
This season he wasn’t even close to Donnarumma. Realistically.
If want to sell maignan, the management should renewal first like they did with reijnders. How ever Milan should going nowhere, torriani the primavera GK , can make replacement. He already have the talent, perhaps it’s time to step up…
Furlani looks like someone I would enjoy punching him in his face and I’m not a violent person. But. I would really like to use his face a punching bag.
Poor management
Milan been lowballing Chelsea for all the players we’ve gotten from them so of course they do the same back, and expect Milan to agree to maintain the good relation between the clubs.
We bought Maignan for 16 mil and his market value is around 25 mil, but with an expiring contract. Had the fool Furlani extended him we could have gotten 30-35 for him. Now we will get half that
We got a 24 year old Tomori that many wanted for 35 mil
A 25 year old Pulisic for 25 mil
A 28 year old Loftus-Cheek for 19 mil
A soon 30 year old Maignan with his injury history and 1 year left on the contract wont go for over 20 mil….
TIme to build a mid-table team. Flush out quality and bring in quantity!
The Harvard Business School model is working just great!!
Milan should have extended his contract to increase his value. This squarely the fault of the management. Milan should move on with a new shot stopper.
CHELSEA SOLD PLAYERS TO AC MILAN AT REAL LOW PRICES IN THE PAST. HOW MUCH DID AC MILAN PAY FOR PUILISIC AND LOFTUS CHEEK. HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR GIROUD. IT IS FAIR FOR MILAN TO ACCEPT 18 MILLION, THAN LOSING HIM FOR FREE TO THE SAME CHELSEA.
Go away, moolie
Pulisic is the ONLY player we got from Chelsea at a REALLY good price. If you think Loftus Cheek and Tomori were bought at reduced costs for the quality we have seen over the years then you need help. Also, Giroud was on a free so his name shouldn’t even be included there.
What’s the bigger picture here? Everyone is being sold off. Tiji, Maignan, Theo, Leao apparently too.
Why is Milan selling off its assets? Is it a reset like we’re being led to believe? Or is there something else in the works?
A team coming off a terrible season needs to reinforce, not sell off every single strong player. At this rate, Puli will probably head for the door too.
Feels like a plug is being pulled at Milan by The Funds…
Furlani: “you must go. It is a sin for cardinale milan losing player for free. We even sold our former italian captain for half million to bologna.”
Furlani: “if somebody can bring us money, we can not let him go for free. We are money lover.”
Furlani: “go maignan bring as the money.”
Furlani: “we are ambitious as a team in Milan, but have to provide revenues for the Board (of directors)” 😉
milan managers are a big joke
