Longo: Final effort needed by Milan as Fofana asks for clarity – the situation

By Ben Dixon -

Youssouf Fofana emerged as AC Milan’s top midfield target earlier this summer, but there are still some hurdles that must be overcome, and now, a report suggests the final effort is needed.

Had the summer started differently, perhaps there would be less pressure on this deal, but Milan must act swiftly in the closing stages of a deal with Monaco. It is not the first time this summer that the Rossoneri have led the race for a target, but after the ending of the Joshua Zirkzee saga, there could be a hanging fear of that repeating.

In fairness, the Diavolo hold a strong position in the negotiations, given the player only has eyes for this move, and the two parties have already drafted personal terms. However, the negotiations with AS Monaco are not going as smoothly.

As Daniele Longo reports for Calciomercato.com, Fofana wants to know his future in a week’s time and has asked for clarity, something which is ideal for Milan too, and given they are the only club with a concrete offer on the table, their position is, once again, strong.

Nevertheless, Thiago Scuro, Monaco’s Director of Football, knows how and well to sell his ‘crown jewels’, and he has not given the Rossoneri any signals. Instead, he would rather an auction open, with Manchester United and Atletico Madrid interested in the midfielder.

Seemingly, it will be a race won in Madrid, Manchester, or Milan, but in Monaco, there will be no Fofana after this summer, so a final effort must be made by the Rossoneri.

  1. Atletico will never compete against Barca and Real.
Untd is a club no one plays well at, there is no team there, best you can do it top 4.
Milan have the best chances to be champions, so hopefully Fofana can also realize that, maybe with a friendly push from his friends Theo and Maignan

    1. Fofana has already agreed, so his opinion isn’t the limiting factor here. Monaco doesn’t want to let him go for cheap and Milan isn’t willing to pay.
Ultimately it’s Monaco’s choice to either accept a small price or let him go for free next summer.

      1. Or wait and hope for a bigger big from a club that Forfana wanna join. ACM is not the only club in the world, nor the biggest.

        1. Well once again Furlani and Moncada have stuffed another important deal up!
They stuffed up Thuram and Zirkee and others and now Fofana!
Why are these people working for one of the biggest clubs in the world of football when they are way below par.
They should be managing Seria B club maybe?
They still have not signed Pavalic or a fantastic young striker like promised and Samarazic well that is still not over the line WOW. Boys have missed the mark again!
Another dull and second grade season on the cards!
Way behind Inter last season and gain this season!
          Thanks Milan management or “Mis-management”

  2. Close the deal around 20 million and call it a day. More important than saving 2 million euro, is to get the right player, and in due time.

    1. if that’s the principle of the current director, the deal would have been closed last week…or even earlier than that

  3. Everybody is talking about 20 mln when reports at the begining of the week were saying Monaco wants 35mln now after Atl M and United showed interest for the player. So yeah.We are the type of club now with a single strategy about landing new players”Hoping the players will still buy that old bollocks that we are the most titled club in the world and force his current club lower his price”.Thanks for that Jerry”empty pockets”.

  4. Embarassing

You would think that For a club that has all of these restrictions: wage cap; transfer cap; agent cap; youth policy; etc… – that when a player like Fofana comes along that meets all of your restrictions – (20M fee; 3M salary; no agent issues; in his prime and a starting caliber player) – you wouldn’t hesitate to sign him – you would jump at the chance and move on to the next target right???? 20M is within our transfer cap per player right??? So what is the EXCUSE to not close the deal now??

And this is the problem that all the Redbird lovers conveniently forget and that is; We will ALWAYS have an excuse NOT TO SPEND $$$. Now apparently, 20M is too much for a STARTING DM??? Hahahahaha! What a farce. We are an Embarassing club with this management/ownership. But hey at least we are profitable. Perhaps we can afford to buy a few biscotti to share with the players.

Players will only wait for long. After a while they begin to wonder – does this new club actually want me or rate me?? BUT of course we wait and wait and wait for other clubs to come in, show interest and steal the player (just like Botman). LOLOLOLOLO

    Good times Gerry
