Theo Hernandez is destined to leave AC Milan this summer and despite rejecting Al-Hilal’s approach, AC Milan and the Saudi Arabian side are hoping for a change of heart.
After an incredibly tough 2024-25 season, with poor performances and a disappointing attitude, Hernandez is now destined to pack his bags and say goodbye to Milan. As one of the most experienced in the team, he was meant to be a leader but we saw very little of that.

Al-Hilal solution remains for Milan and Theo
Al-Hilal made an attempt to sign him ahead of the Club World Cup, putting around €30m on the table for Milan, but the left-back refused and is still hoping for a solution in Europe. However, according to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri are still holing out hope.
In fact, Al-Hilal haven’t given up on the Frenchman and Milan’s sporting director Igli Tare is keeping talks alive with the intermediaries. Both clubs are thus hoping that Hernandez will have a change of heart, especially since a salary of €18m per season is up for grabs.
The talks with Atletico Madrid broke down after Milan rejected the €18m offer, sticking to their €30m demand, and it’s difficult to imagine that another European club will offer that much.
Three possible replacements identified
As Longo continues, while waiting to understand what will happen to Hernandez, they have identified three possible replacements. The first is Andrea Cambiaso, who plays for Juventus, but it will be difficult to convince the Bianconeri to let him go.
The second player is Maxim De Cuyper, but Roma and several Premier League clubs are further ahead than Milan in that race. Finally, Oleksandr Zinchenko is a player that Tare likes a lot, but the problem is the hefty salary of €12m per season.
Regardless of the replacement, it’s clear that Milan have no intention of keeping Hernandez in the squad for next season. At the same time, they want to get as much as possible from the sale.
His marriage won’t survive going to Saudi Arabia. Barteshagi is a left back. A replacement for Theo isn’t needed, a back-up for Barteshagi is needed.

More sad thing is ATM priority from beginning not theo but andy robertson ( source fabrizio romano) thats why ATM only offer 18m euro for their plan B and dont want increase their offer. If Milan refuses it costs 4.5M and the refused fee (let’s say 5M, so total 9.5M). Atletico know that they can play lowball. Milan is the only club that publicly destroys their own negotiating position…

Cambiasso has a steep price tag. Would love to have him though.
Cambiaso and Udogie are way out of our price range, theres no way the management would spend that much on a full back, probably in excess of €40mn
I’d take a chance on De Cuyper personally, I think the upside is higher than Zinchenko who, while comfortable on the ball, makes countless mistakes and seemingly injured half the time.
But given hes the cheaper option we’ll almost certainly go with him. Even with Tare+ Allegri in i doubt much has changed, ultimately Redbird control the pursestrings
For Theo this is a lose-lose so far. I don’t think he takes Arabia offer unless he’s really desperate. If he stays both him and Milan are worse off, especially if the rumors are true that he’ll be benched …
His agent should advise him to sign a bumper deal to get his stock up and generate some interest …
