Longo: Milan favouring French midfielder over German talent – the details

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan are yet to appoint Paulo Fonseca as their next head coach, but they believe they can begin planning with him soon, and he has an idea for his midfield, according to a report.

Several areas need investment this summer, and Milan will have to be especially shrewd if they are to fulfil these aims. A striker tops the list, given Olivier Giroud has departed, and a central defender follows shortly after.

Elsewhere, a new right-back is desired, as is another defensive midfielder, and the club have identified their top target for the latter position.

The identikit for the role is specific, a physical midfielder that can play as an ‘8’ but prefers to be the ‘6’. Additionally, the player must be young enough to develop further, which is a key aspect of the Rossoneri’s recruitment strategy.

Two names have seemingly prevailed in recent months, but a report from Daniele Longo on Calciomercato.com, suggests there is now a preference, and that is Youssouf Fofana, the Frenchman from Monaco.

As Longo reports, he is good in transition and matches the profile that is needed to strengthen the midfield set-up. Monaco are open to a sale this summer due to his deal expiring in the summer of 2025.

This means they are less likely to go for Schalke talent, Assan Ouedraogo. However, this is likely due to ‘poor relations with his agent’ as Longo states.

  1. Should be a good replacement to plug the gap left by Kessie…as promising as the Schalke youngster is, we need to get the mercato right with the coach that has already been compromised. Give him a decent squad to work with and let’s see.

  2. We don’t have time for these “talents”, with Kjaer and Giroud leaving, we don’t have leader quality players and we have too many immature players, we need good established players.

    1. Maybe you are not familiar with the model thìs gringos want to apply for Milan. Its called arsenal or “moneyroll” in their pockets.Buying young and cheap, sell after 3,4 years+champions league spot and kaching..That’s the entire scheme, stop dreaming.Clearly Maldini put too much preasure on them to make performance and make real investments, not selling the best you have and buy all kind of footballers wannabe. This season you will see clearly what kind of snake is Ibrahimovic when he won’t gaf about”tifossi”.He was behind Maldini’s dismiss, not Furlani as he wants this toy only for himself.Furlani just took it for Ibrahimovic.

        1. Thank you for such an important question my friend cause I really need to know too cause I have no idea Ibrahimovic got Maldini out of Milan.

      1. Very funny comment dude. Can you check how much player ACM sell for profit ? Just start from yong hong li owner, then elliot and redbird. They release player free transfer more than selling for profit. Of course i dont mind if they sell crap player like origi ,ballo toure etc . So far redbird only sell for high price only tonali ( get banned till august for betting illegally) but they fix right winger with that money buying pulisic & chukwueze ( ACM weak position for many years) also buying his replacement tiji. It is 1 player for 3 player, it is huge benefit for ACM . If they aiming full profit , they will sell player that refuse extend contract but the reality many player go free transfer . Arsenal ??? Are you living in cave or what ? Arsenal 3rd in EPL spending transfer budget below chelsea & MU and above manc city . Yes they keep failed win EPL in 2 season ended in runner up but they are facing guardiola ( one of the best coach in europe) , arsenal financial now surpass even liverpool due to new stadium

        1. That’s all great but what have they won at Arsenal? Their last league title was 2003/04. FA cups? Great. They are now a financial powehouse after 20 years of dragging around at 4th place. But they’re still trophyless. And comparing Arsenal to Milan?
