Longo: Milan favouring French midfielder over German talent – the details

AC Milan are yet to appoint Paulo Fonseca as their next head coach, but they believe they can begin planning with him soon, and he has an idea for his midfield, according to a report.

Several areas need investment this summer, and Milan will have to be especially shrewd if they are to fulfil these aims. A striker tops the list, given Olivier Giroud has departed, and a central defender follows shortly after.

Elsewhere, a new right-back is desired, as is another defensive midfielder, and the club have identified their top target for the latter position.

The identikit for the role is specific, a physical midfielder that can play as an ‘8’ but prefers to be the ‘6’. Additionally, the player must be young enough to develop further, which is a key aspect of the Rossoneri’s recruitment strategy.

Two names have seemingly prevailed in recent months, but a report from Daniele Longo on Calciomercato.com, suggests there is now a preference, and that is Youssouf Fofana, the Frenchman from Monaco.

As Longo reports, he is good in transition and matches the profile that is needed to strengthen the midfield set-up. Monaco are open to a sale this summer due to his deal expiring in the summer of 2025.

This means they are less likely to go for Schalke talent, Assan Ouedraogo. However, this is likely due to ‘poor relations with his agent’ as Longo states.
