Giorgiuo Furlani has made Tony D’Amico his priority for the sporting director role and while talks with Atalanta are expected to be difficult, he won’t give up without a fight.
Milan are looking to bring in a sporting director for next season and various names have been linked with the job, albeit mainly Atalanta’s D’Amico and the former Lazio director Igli Tare. According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, the former is the priority of Furlani.

Indeed, as Tare currently is out of contract, Milan could have appointed him by now and there is a reason that they haven’t: D’Amico has always been Furlani’s favourite, even over Fabio Paratici. However, it’s a pursuit that remains difficult.
Talks between Furlani and the Percassi family, the owners of Atalanta, will take place soon to take stock of the situation. D’Amico has already been given more power at the club, though, and the Bergamo side intend to keep it that way.
The initial signals ‘are not posititive’ for Milan, as Longo describes it, but Furlani won’t give up at the first hurdle. He still thinks that he can get D’Amico onboard even if it will take more time than hiring someone like Tare, who for now remains on stand-by.
From a fan perspective, it’s a bit worrying that Milan are pursuing a director who’s under contract and won’t be able to join until June. The planning phase for the 2025-26 season must start now and that’s not possible without a sporting director.
Why would D’Amico leave the successful project at Atalanta to join a fractured Milan with two groups fighting for power??? No self respecting SD world pull the trigger.
The only one who would is Tare because he is out of work for the past two years. While both Elliott and Redbird are at Milan, there can be no talk of a successful project.
The whole RedBird idea, the “oh I’m so smart” owner-debtor move, the moneyball BS were all a good joke to begin with. Disagree? Prove it with success on and off the pitch. Have something to speak for the so-called “ambition and vision”. This club has been a laughing stock since RedBird took over. Make something of value happen and then people will start paying some respect. Or else all these things are nothing but merely a joke.
Of course he is pursuing another candidate everyone and their mom knows won’t come here. buys more time for excuses as to why they will fail in the market at getting good targets, AGAIN. Have to go in the scrap heap at the end of the market, one week befofe the season starts, with free or cheap loans and rejects. The excuse for not grttong players will be they had to focus on the right coach after getting their director late so it “delayed ” their market.
Anything for Gerry to sell off one or more of our best players, pocket profits and win a finance scudetto. Taking another step in the viable path to sporting failure. How other will we manage to get our total spend down to 40 million euros or less over the year? Certainly not by winning with them in charge.
