Longo: Tonali wants Newcastle move and ‘has not resisted’ Milan exit

Sandro Tonali is just one step away from joining Newcastle, now expected to undergo his medicals in Romania. AC Milan are set to accept the bid and the midfielder did not push back, a report claims.

The news first broke on Tuesday evening and things have proceeded very fast since then. As per Sky Italia, the agreement will end up being worth around €80m, while Tonali is set to sign a contract worth €8m plus €2m in bonuses per year.

According to Daniele Longo, Tonali wants to join the English and ‘has not resisted’ since the interest was first made known to him. The speculation that Milan forced him to move because of the hefty offer can thus be put to bed.

Being a boyhood Milan fan, Tonali entered the hearts of the fans immediately and he helped give us all a great memory with the Scudetto season. His exit is bitter-sweet, but at least the Rossoneri will get a lot of money.

  1. “The speculation that Milan forced him to move because of the hefty offer can thus be put to bed.”

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! It can’t be true!!!!! It must be Cardinale himself who is doing this!!!

PS. It’s also Cardinale who wrote this article. He just hijacked Isak’s account.

    1. No one push the other, it’s mutual understanding.

He didn’t resist but he didn’t push for it. He only let Milan to decide it. Milan accept the offer, it means that Milan think they are in better position with 80m instead of Tonali. He want Milan to get what Milan believe is the better for the club, in this case, it is the 80m.

    2. See you later Sandro

He will be back next season on loan to us💯, can’t see him or his family settling in Newcastle

  2. Turns out all of you sht talking Redbird about forcing Tonali out are wrong again. Time to face the music. This generation of Italians have let their league become a farmers league hopefully Redbird has the foresight to bring calcio back

  3. 😭😭😭 Yeah, we’ll get alot from his sale but I’ll miss him…. Pls Sandro, come back soon! Selling him would mean buying SMS pls

    1. Stupid comment. This is real life. The offer is 3 to 4 times his current salary, to play in the highest profile and most watched league in the world, and still be playing in the Champions League.

It’s not sentimental, which people seem extremely upset about, but this is a win-win for Tonali and Milan.

None of us would turn down the offer if we were the player. And it is an offer that is going to ultimately help AC Milan build a better squad than the one they would have had with Tonali had the offer been refused.

      1. going to newcsatle is a win win for Tonali?
like that club, in premier, is ever going to get a trophy… or EU, dont get me started on EU.
If he lucks out he will join shity or liverpool in 2 years, or maybe one of spain duo
        win- win…

    2. They threw a stupid amount of guaranteed money at him. Hate to see him leave but can you blame him? Their careers are short. The game changed everywhere when the oil money came in.

    3. They are offering 80m to Milan when Milan need transfer budget.

If you are Tonali, will you stay but make Milan lost the 80m opportunity or will you leave but give Milan 80m?

  4. The deal was basically done in less than 48 hours in the middle of June. Of course he didn’t resist.
For 2 years when I criticized Maldini for losing our best players for free instead of selling them a year earlier people were using the excuse YOU CAN’T SELL A PLAYER THAT DOESN’T WANT TO LEAVE.
If Tonali didn’t want to leave Milan wouldn’t be able to sell him.
He got offered a lot of money and he took it and good for him.
I wonder if people going to refer to him as £andro now like they did that other kid Gigio $umma.

    1. “I wonder if people going to refer to him as £andro now like they did that other kid Gigio $umma.”

Obviously there will a couple but I’d say in general he did what he thought was best move for him and the club he still represents. There’s a difference in misleading the club and fans and leaving for free than getting the club the fee it deserves.

I’d rather would have seen him become the next Messi and playing the next 10 years in Milan winning multiple Ballon d’Ors but that would have never happened and the 80M€ is faaaar more than I thought anyone would EVER pay for him so… No hard feelings and thank you for getting Milan the money to actually strengthen the squad.

PS. Not going to miss all those cornerkicks given straight at the 1st or 2nd opponent time after time after time.

    2. First thing your name suggests you are guy who bend with wind like pioli.. second after seeing comments on many articles I realized you bent of oneside redbird side..

    3. “I wonder if people going to refer to him as £andro now…” -LOL. Why not just $andro?

BTW, I read on Football-Italia that Donnarumma now wants out of PSG. So I think the Dollarumma thing might be a bit more accurate. He went for the money and got bit.

  5. He knows with current ownership we have no chances of accomplishing more than he already has with us. Newcastle have more resources and ambitious club than us. He knows our club is going down the toilet. First sign that we are in for a grim future. They were willing to fire Maldini walk, didn’t want to invest over last year. Overworked all our players for 3 years without providing reinforcements, put their directors backs agaisnt the wall before getting rid of them. Replaced them with incapable and inexperienced people who crunch numbers before acting when it is crunch time to improve our club. He knows this is going nowhere fast. When your player who is AC MILAN through and through does not resist the exit door, you know the house is on FIRE. Pioli, Moncada, Cardinale and Furliani are on fire, not in a good way and burning us down along with them. Run fratello and don’t look back. Thanks Tonali for everything , all the best to you champ.

  6. Well only time will tell the real side of the story.

Meanwhile, isn’t it funny the first soon-to-be official move by this so-called new management in the transfer window is selling a key player? Such a poor PR. With all the flames in Maldini’s exit, the wise thing to do is to put some flames down with a decent signing. That’s not the case. They put even more gasoline. Says a lot about this new era.

    1. Why all this pr, Tonali this, that. Milan had him young on low salary, yet they decided to sell, for nice price though… Kaka, Seva, were always in context get your money why you can.

  7. At this point whatever has happened I wish Tonali the best wherever it may be and I just hope we reinvest the money we are gaining from his sale this summer and well.

  8. I think everyone is misunderstanding this transfer. Tonali was not “forced out” or “really wanted to leave” but the project for Milan has clearly changed. The idea of Milan that was behind Maldini is gone, we are not building a world class team anymore, but are developing players to sell for a profit. It’s sad that this is what football has become, but the owner has his best interest in developing and selling players. I am sure that money will be reinvested into a stadium, and at that point be sold to someone who wants to bring Milan back. But Redbird and Cardinale have other plans.

  9. I agree. Now we need to find at least 2 good midfielders to become our key players. What my problem are there are still no confirmation that guarantee we are reinvesting with another good player. I’m trying to be positive with the new management but for now I just hate to see Sandro leaves without confirmed proper or even upgrade replacement. SMS and Frattesi is tempting, but all is just rumours for now.

    1. F you bro, the guy clearly bleeds red and black. This moves gives him and his family security for generations and helps the club. He’s leaving on good terms and any real Milan fan will root from him unless Milan face him in CL.

  10. This is a good move for Milan if they use this money wisely. Tonali has been hugely overrated and is not worth anywhere close to this kind of money. Milan can get two players better than Tonali for this price.
Where are all the people who were calling Kessie and Calhanoglu snakes for leaving Milan for more money??? What do you say about Tonali now?

    1. “Where are all the people who were calling Kessie and Calhanoglu snakes for leaving Milan for more money??? What do you say about Tonali now?”

Leaving for free and getting us a hefty compensation are like the two exactly opposite things here. Fail to see that and I don’t know what to say…

      1. SO you think Sandro is doing this to be generous to Milan or is he leaving to get a lot more money??
I don’t fault anyone for leaving to get paid what they are worth. I never faulted Kessie for it. Milan shouldve offered him more. But it’s the other people on here who killed these other players for leaving for more money and put Tonali on a pedestal… What do they say now about him?

        1. “SO you think Sandro is doing this to be generous to Milan or is he leaving to get a lot more money??”

What I think doesn’t matter here but since you asked. Hopefully both but more likely the latter. But he didn’t leave us empty-handed which cannot be said about the two bastards mentioned before.

” I never faulted Kessie for it. Milan shouldve offered him more. ”
          Nope. They shouldn’t have.

“But it’s the other people on here who killed these other players for leaving for more money and put Tonali on a pedestal… What do they say now about him?”
Like said. Different situations. Milan gets the compensation they deserve for making him what he is today. Kessie? Kessie basically said FU to the fans and the club with his lies.

          1. ” But he didn’t leave us empty-handed which cannot be said about the two bastards mentioned before.”
That’s Maldini’s fault, not the players. If you wait until the players contract is up to try and resign them…that’s what happens.
And yes Milan made a mistake with Kessie and the results were there for all to see this past season with our midfield getting bossed by everyone. Hopefully now with Tonali gone and the money to spend Milan can fix that.

  11. Lol sure, if he wanted money he could go to United or Barca long time ago. He even got a pay cut. I don’t blame him if the club owners treats you like they did with Maldini then it’s not worth staying

  12. Idk but i don’t think Tonali will be success in Newcastle. Looking back most Italian player failed to adapt in PL such as Scamacca, Kean, Cutrone, Borini, Zappacosta, Gabbiadini, and Balotelli. I predict he will be sold or loaned back in next 2-3 season

      1. Balotelli was doing well 1 of 3,5 seasons in PL. After all his laziness didn’t fit well on kick n rush system. He peaked his performance in serie a and ligue 1

  13. Well sandro wanted or not the sticking point is after Maldini sacking this is worst a management can come up with….we all remember we are letting go player who was very much integral part of our system with isma gone for some time this transfer leaves many question marks over how we are moving forward.. new recruits who are mainly rumors will be able to fill gap? And how they adjust to league…by tonali transfer our midfield is virtually non existent and how will this effect squad morale the players itself will be thinking where this club is heading?. I won’t be surprised if leao or theo or maignan or some other will put a transfer request….this isn’t strengthening the team this is stop and gap solution….this transfer window will virtually explain where we will stand with redbird era……

  14. It started a day after the conclusion of the season, lets watch and see, we are all ac milan fans here, and every one of us thinks they are smart and anyone who thinks differently is dumb, pathetic, idiot etc, lets watch, most of us have been with the club since a long time ago, we have been through everything, lets all just sit back and watch the current period, journalists are not doing us any favour these days, but lets just watch, after all thats what fans can only do, spectators, LOL, stop insulting each other

    1. I totally agree I am stractching my head why we arguing here with transfers and all….. this is football Pele went messi came I am sure football will go on…..let’s wait and see how we move forward in this transfer window after tonali sale may be we find a diamond like that Georgian player kavashelia I guess…..debating is onething but never cross red line of foul language…..we all love Milan but management got lot of things to look at

  15. Wish him well and hope we use the funds to improve the squad. Frattesi and SMS for Tonali is a steal. Let’s see…

  16. The level of idiocy on this site is astonishing.

OF COURSE he didn’t resist AFTER they put him on the market and told him they WANTED TO SELL HIM.

The key word you Redbird lovers conveniently chose to ignore is “AFTER” lol.

If your boss comes to you and say “hey we are looking for your replacement your no longer needed” – would you say “no boss I’m not leaving”??? LOL. Too many dumb people on this site buying the Redbird PR SPIN. Just like they bashed Maldini said he wasn’t a “collaborator” they are doing the same with Tonali – “well he didn’t resist” so of course it’s his fault. Hahahahahahaha. Fkn SHEEEP man. Unreal.

    PROFIT over TITLES.

Remember we didn’t NEED to sell. Fine they did it but let’s not try and turn this on Sandro. Also what are they going to do with ALL the money?? Invest it ALL back in the club?

And what about the extra 120M from UCL run?? Why are we not using that as well to buy players??

PROFIT gents, PROFIT = the REDBIRD WAY

    1. Even in your wildest fantasies, you can’t seriously believe this is a case of “If your boss comes to you and say “hey we are looking for your replacement your no longer needed” – would you say “no boss I’m not leaving””

I mean, firstly he has a contract for 4 more years, he’s perfectly entitled to stay.

Secondly, it’s not like Milan have an amazing replacement lined up; if he stays, he plays – simple as that.

Thirdly, if he was ‘forced out’ then Newcastle wouldn’t be offering him such obscene money to move.

Fourth, if your boss comes to you and says that and you have a valid contract and you don’t want to leave, then of course you say ‘no’. That stuff happens in the real world all the time.

Stop seeing the world in binary. Tonali has chosen to move to Newcastle because they’re going to pay him a lot of money and because Newcastle are willing to pay Milan an amount that they’ll agree to cancel his contract for. Not because Milan don’t want him. He’ll be the record sale from Milan and he’s going to be set for life from his new contract.

        1. I deliberately stayed away from the site the last day or so just to avoid the feverish jabberings of Juro Martin Zoro Nino and the like over this transfer.

    2. It’s gonna be a different Milan whether you like it or not. You can huff & puff until your turn blue in the face with your usual “PROFITS OVER TITLEZZZ” narrative. Or accept it and move on (to a different team fan base of this is unbearable for you). Otherwise day in and day out you’re here spewing the same message and calling others names…

    3. @Juro,
The bottom line here is that no player is untouchable for the right price. That is the Redbird model. That is how they want to run the club. Whether it’s the right approach or not, time will tell.

There’s too much news out there. It all sounds like PR to make it look like Tonali demanded to move. I ain’t buying it. I don’t have a problem with Redbird and how it wants to run Milan – it’s their money. However, don’t sell us the crap that Tonali wanted the move.

Romain Faivre wanted the move to Milan and Brest shut it down. When a player is not in his last two years of his contract, he can’t make demands that the club cannot deal with. The club can decide to even let him run down his contract and let him leave for free.

At present, selling Tonali gives Milan money. How well that money is used for reinforcement will show if it was the right call.

      For now, forza Milan.
      Grazie Sandro.

      1. Brest shut it down because Maldini was offering less money than they were asking and the kid was doing stupid things to force brest to accept Milan offer which was below their demands.
But I guess that little fact doesn’t fit your agenda here

        1. “Brest shut it down because…” This was all you needed to say.

          |Milan can shut it down because… they deem Sandro as untouchable as a symbol of the project.
          |Milan could shut it down because… they think Sandro is a vital part of the team and with Bennacer out, they want to keep him at least for now.
          |Milan could have shut it down because… they think the money is not enough…

          The ‘because’ can be anything.

Milan is not shutting it down because…
          |Milan needs money and thinks it’s an opportunity too good to pass up.
          |With the money, 2 or 3 adequate replacements can be purchased…

Again, the ‘because’ can be anything.

          1. Tonali could also shut it down by refusing to leave.
Remember, you can’t sell a player unless he wants to leave.
Great deal for Milan, great deal for Sandro

          2. “Great deal for Milan, great deal for Sandro”

Yeah, so, win-win. End of story for everyone complaining about this transfer. No way Tonali is a 70-75m player. At best he’s on the same level as a Nocerino, Poli (not to be confused with the person on this site) and MAYBE with a little improvement an Ambrosini. These were all above average to good players who received a handful of Italy caps, but were not world class.

  17. Some fellow here keeps pushing the narrative that Tonali is money hungry. Well, he’s entitled to do that. After all, he does the work and if you find a better employer who offers better wages, you make the switch.

But let me recall a scenario that played out a couple of transfer windows ago. Milan wanted a player in the French league called Romain Faivre, a RW who played for Brest. An offer was made, just slightly under what Brest wanted. Milan was holding out.

Faivre decided to ‘force’ the move. He said some things to the press and even refused to play a match for fear of getting injured and jeopardizing the transfer. Neither Milan or Brest bulged from their position.

Deadline day, Milan had a plane ready to fly Faivre. Something stupid happened and Brest took Faivre off the market. They were prepared to lose him for free because he still a contract. It was deadline day, Milan could only turn to Messias Jr.

With Tonali, we can make all sorts of assumptions. It’s however safe to say, that Newcastle had to contact Milan first. Transfer is yet to open officially and you can’t contact players who have contracts. Am I correct? There’s a law against contacts outside of the window, except with free agents.

So, Newcastle asks Milan. Milan wants to know what Newcastle is willing to offer. It sounds good, so Milan sends for Tonali’s agent. Milan can take Tonali off the market. Tonali cannot force a move. He has more than three years on his contract.

All this talk about Newcastle tripling his salary is irrelevant. Milan chose to sell rather than take him off the market.

Whether it turns out good or not, time will tell; but to make false claims and try to paint Sandro Tonali as a snake is wrong.

  18. I feel happy for him. He’s young and deserves to play in better leagues. Also, the sale will bring so much profit. It’s useless to stay when your idol club became soulless and only cares about money.

Thank you so much, Tonali. Thank you for becoming part of Milan rebirth in the last few seasons. Thank you for the 19th scudetto.

  19. All we can do is wish Sandro luck in a new league and hope he makes us proud. He’s deserving of the wages he’s set to make. Forever grateful for his contributions and his grinta during his time at Milan.

The club is changing. Times are changing. This will be a different Milan altogether in a season or two. Hopefully one we still love support and love to watch even if it will be less recognizable.

    FORZA MILAN ⚫️🔴

  20. I’m doing well at the company where I work and I enjoy working with great colleagues. But if an offer came tomorrow that would raise my salary by 300%, honestly, I wouldn’t think long about moving elsewhere ! Especially if the old company would still open the door for me to get out more easily. If we’re going to get €80 million for him, we have to think a little more positively. Of course, on one condition. To invest that entire amount in new reinforcements.

  21. To get a deal done with AC Milan so effortlessly makes a nice change. I respect they were honest about their valuations instead of pulling the West Ham move with Declan Rice and trying to pump his price up by price gauging as many attractors as possible then milking it.

  22. At the end of the day it’s the players decision, that’s why Bakayoko is still a Chelsea player, you can’t simply just get rid of someone unless they want the move

  23. I understand both parties. Everyone would think twice about that kind of money. but this is going down a very tricky route where certain clubs won’t just be able to compete again. I guess as fans it’s probably best not to get attached to any player in your team anymore. (Theo and Mike could be next season at this rate.)
But the way the game is going, where club can just throw silly money around… It will completely destroy the game as we know it. It is already bad but this is going to another level. Especially as the Saudi pro league is gaining a lot of momentum now. Uefa should get ready because since throwing money around is the order of the day, these guys can throw a lot!

  24. ‘According to Daniele Longo, Tonali wants to join the English and ‘has not resisted’ since the interest was first made known to him. The speculation that Milan forced him to move because of the hefty offer can thus be put to bed.’

Oh Daniele Longo, how the mighty have fallen. I’m pretty sure that quote isn’t going to age well. I guess you could back your way out of it by saying not resisted means not going against the club. Sure that’s possible. Not resisted could mean the club said, hey we got a huge offer for u and are considering it. Tonali then would not have ‘resisted” right. That’s one way to look at it. But I do like the narrative it drew up. And Isak Moller, holy bro, you just ran with it like it was fact, it’s just Longo’s opinion bro.
There are ways to force ppl out without looking like ur forcing ppl out. Saying something like ‘we think that’s a satisfactory offer but we’ll let you decide’ instead of ‘we would love to have you here as a Milan symbol but it’s your choice’ are two different things and alot to read between lines
PS you guys should look at the actual tweet and responses. Most ppl didit buy it lol 😂😂 😂

  25. Serie A is dead. Top Italian teams are just feeder to English clubs and PSG. Gone are the glory days of Italian football.

  26. Why would you sell a player like Tonali in his prime other than Money on the part of new ownership?
This is why they fired Maldini & Massara. They would not agree to sell Tonali. I expect more selling of top players with a high market value. This ownership does not have AC Milan best interest . It’s just selling
a product high and hoping to buy low. They should be working at Goldman Sachs ? Oh Yes, Cardinale was a former employee.
