‘Enough procrastination’ – Longoni calls for action after Milan’s incompetence

AC Milan were on the wrong side of the result last night, but there can be no qualms about it. After all, it was deserved.

There is something about losing a cup final, like Milan did last night, where the current moment almost feels like an effort. It is not the first game for the Rossoneri this season where performances have not been up to standard.

When it matters most, you have to look at this team and ask how many times have they performed this season? Unfortunately, that answer would be quite low. The Champions League games, countless Serie A games, and this, the latest.

There is a need for change on several levels with the Rossoneri now, and Giorgio Furlani stated that the club need time to mull over the season and make decisions, sharing the disappointment of the fans.

For Andrea Longoni, the situation is clear, and the journalist gave his thoughts to Calciomercato.com, this morning.

“Congratulations to Bologna, the victory of the Coppa Italia is well deserved, the defeat of Milan is equally so. It is the photograph of a season that ends in a truly disappointing way. It is right this way: at Bologna there is real work behind it, there is a top management, an excellent coach, a real team.

“There is a project and there is competence: at Milan it is the exact opposite.

“The knots always come to a head in the end . Where things are done well, the bar is raised. Where everything is dictated by chance, these are the results . I say to Furlani that it would be better to talk later.

“A few days ago he recalled that Conceicao could be the first after Ancelotti to win 2 trophies in a season: well, maybe it is better to say it after the fact. This season is a total failure. The second trophy could have partially consoled the general bitterness, and instead here is another defeat.

“You can’t play a final this badly: for almost the entire match, Milan couldn’t get past the halfway line or make 3 passes in a row. Zero play, unlike their opponents.

“And now that’s enough. Enough of procrastinating about the sports director. He should be hired and a good one at that. Enough of procrastinating about the coach. He should be replaced with someone really good. Enough of taking time on renewals and the market.

“Now there will be, without even the Europa League, even fewer economic resources. Let’s show once and for all that there is a will to roll up our sleeves and start again on the right track: up until now, that track has not been taken…”

A scathing review of the current picture. Though one that you would struggle to disagree with much.

  1. This management cant even fix the two matches vs Bologna, they won in Serie A but lost in Coppa,
    the exact opposite 😉

  2. It’s pretty clear that this management Cardinale, Furlani and Moncada (and Ibrahimović later on) thought the task was easier than it actually is.
Cardinale probably thought that the top 4 position we’ve always managed to obtain during Massara & Maldini’s era was always going to be a given and that he can get rid of those who don’t agree with his vision while reaching that objective which constitutes for him the bare minimum. And to be fair, it’s pretty normal that people like Furlani and Cardinale, who have no experience with sports and with big clubs, understimated the task and the skills required to do it, a text-book example of the Dunning–Kruger effect.
But anyways, now that it’s clear that this management can’t “manage” a club from a sporting point of view (they’ve done well from a financial point of view I’ll give them that) and that we didn’t even manage to win the Coppa which would have allowed them to brag and pretend that this season isn’t as bad as actually is, the logical thing to do, the ONLY thing to do is to swallow the hard pill, put their ego aside, hire competent people to do the job and give them the proper autonomy and power to do so. Furlani will have to accept that he will never more than a banker and Moncada will have to go back to his role as a scout. RedBird will need to morph a bit like Elliot or Oaktree that put functioning structures and not trying to put forward this “vision” or lack thereof.
Failure to do so will see this club fail again and they probably have only 1 year to make it a success.

No!!! The mulling & decisions needed to be done ages ago!! The new SD needs to be hired before the season ends and we need to start negotiation for upgrades the day after the championships end. Only idiots would leave the acquiring of new players to the last week(s) of mercato. Just like the (same) idiots did last year.

      Hope is not a strategy.
