Longoni: Serious evaluations needed after ’embarrassing’ defending in Torino-Milan

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan suffered a tough defeat against Torino last night after conceding three goals, all three of which could have been avoided. As highlighted by Andrea Longoni, the embarrassing displays continue at the back for the Rossoneri.

Stefano Pioli’s men had an okay start to the game but were immediately punished by Torino when the defensive mistakes inevitably occurred. The manager himself admitted that it was ‘the symbol of our season’, saying that it simply wasn’t good enough at the back.

In his latest editorial for MilanNews, Andrea Longoni discussed the defence struggles and also stated that the new manager will have to make significant changes in that department. Indeed, in addition to a signing, a new philosophy is needed at the back.

“Conceding 3 goals against what until yesterday was the team with the second-worst attack in the league is embarrassing, as is the figure of 46 goals conceded so far in the league.

“After a season like this, serious evaluations are needed of the central defence: what is the real value of Tomori and Thiaw? In this sense, in addition to a reinforcement in the department, a real coach will be needed, capable of regenerating the team and working properly on the defensive phase,” he writes.

Torino star Alessandro Buongiorno has been linked with a move to the Rossoneri in recent months, but his price tag is rather high. Perhaps Milan could still make a move thanks to the inclusion of some counterparts.

  1. If an offer comes in for Tomori of more than 30-40mil, take it. Personally, would prefer to keep Thiaw as it would be difficult to replace a tall and athletic CB like him. Invest in a reliable, preferably Italian CB such as Buongiorno or Scalvini alongside him and use Gabbia as well when needed. If we offer Pobega to Torino, it might decrease Buongiorno’s price since they loved him at Torino

    1. Sell both! Tomori is quick but too bad to mark, while Thiaw is too slow. Buy Scalvini or Buongorno and use Simic and Gabbia together with Kalulu.

    2. “Personally, would prefer to keep Thiaw as it would be difficult to replace a tall and athletic CB like him. ”

There’s already a better & stronger replacement ready. His name is Jan-Carlo Simic.

  2. In my honest opinion I think Tomori, Kalulu and Calabria should be offloaded.

Milan need to sign 2 CB, 1 RB and promote Simic and Davide Bartesaghi to the first team.

Buongiorno, Brassier from Brest, and Emerson Royal are 3 players Milan must sign for the summer. Milan need to rebuild the back line.

    1. Agree on most points except Emerson, he’s a bum.

I think Calabria can be a back-up, but I’m not sure he would accept that type of role.

    2. I see you’re still making nonsensical comments. Emerson Royal is trash. Also you haven’t shown up at ROSSONARITV in a long time, don’t want to show your face after being wrong again??

  3. What a shambles!!!!
    What a disgrace!!!
    What a huge dirty mess!!!
    Thank you pioli.
    Thank you moncada.
    Thank you furlani.
