Longoni: Ibrahimovic ‘the biggest disappointment’ for Milan – “Better as an influencer”

By Isak Möller -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined RedBird and AC Milan at the end of last year and after shadowing the management for six months, he took on more responsibilities. However, so far, it has not been great for the Swede as argued by Andrea Longoni.

Ibrahimovic has been increasingly more vocal in his role, handling the press conferences for the new signings, and Gerry Cardinale has previously made it clear that the Swede is his right-hand man. With one point in two games, though, the start to the season has been tough.

On his Twitter, the pundit Andrea Longoni shared his thoughts on the situation and stated that Ibrahimovic is the biggest disappointment amidst all of this. A lot of words and little action from the former striker.

“Ibra is the biggest disappointment. He goes on with his slogans (which are already watered down). He doesn’t realise that he has exhausted the credits of his great past as a footballer already As a director, he has the experience of an intern. Better as an influencer. To date a half disaster, full of himself,” he writes.

The game against Lazio next week is now a must-win for Milan but their record against the Biancocelesti at Olimpico has not been tremendous in recent years. They won the last fixture there, but a lot has changed since.

  1. He’s a disappointment only to those that actually expected that a former player with zero experience in his role to somehow succeed. It doesn’t work like that, I’m afraid. Mediocre coach and mediocre signings, that’s what you get.

  2. Ibra doesn’t even do anything. That’s why he is hired by redbird and not Milan. It’s all a PR stunt like most of everything that goes on in the club nowadays. Muricans and their care of how they’re perceived. Urgh

  3. It’s like everyone want to throw everyone out the door after 2 games. It shows that these sort of people need to go to a special place that can treat their mental sickness.

I mean already throwing all the new players under the bus. Then doing the same thing to Ibra and the coach is crazy as well.

I will say this, give the coach 6 months, if he hasn’t improved the performances and keeps the team in touching distance of 1st place. Then he should stay.

If be doesn’t do both of these things then he should be out the door and we and highly criticize the management.

    1. You must be pretty young with lots of years ahead for Milan to figure it out. Nearly 20 years since a champions league final. That’s not the Milan way. We should demand more is done. We were a prestigious club. Seemingly we have a better financial situation than most in the league. We had plenty of time for decisions and plans knowing giroud, Pioli, Kjaer were exiting. It’s just not good enough. The last 2 seasons we’ve seen Napoli and inter race away early. If you don’t already see it we have a mountain to climb to rescue this team and I’m not talking just results. We’ve gone backwards

      1. I understand you but believe with Cardi policy of running a football club like Milan that dream is dead and wont ever happen until someone else own Milan.

Cardi Milan will only be of clubs Fiorentina and Atlanta level

  4. “Ibra is the biggest disappointment. He goes on with his slogans (which are already watered down). Well said unfortunately…..

  5. Ibra has no influence, he’s just a PR guy. He can say he’s in charge and how it all depends on his will but it doesn’t mean sh*t. He’s just clowning around. Which is bad enough considering the situation we’re in.

  6. People start to understand that big mouth he is just looser who imitate winner he never won anything good other than claiming what others won that mercenary make himself big to earn respect and money

  7. He seems to just be a talking head. At least with Maldini and Boban or even Leonardo. They knew the Milan DNA and how to locate the players that had that DNA. Ibra knows good football but that’s it. It’s clear they wanted a figure heD so the real people could freely work in the background. They didn’t like that Maldini was so strong headed (which could be a flaw of his) however, theyw event willing to pit up with it. Now what we see is a Milan that more resembles PSG, soulless and grasping around in the dark playing the odds.

  8. They sacked Maldini who was actually doing a tremendous job rebuilding the club and his signings won us a Scudetto, and then placed this clown drenched in vanity with no ball knowledge or football iq, whatsoever, in his place. And then we hope to win the Champions League again? Laughably pathetic. Milan will never succeed as a toy of some American billionaire who doesn’t even watch football or knew about the club’s existence before he chose to buy it.

  9. Jesus…. They love an over-reaction in ITaly… Get’s so old, especially from irrelevant sheep like Ordine, Longoni…

Problem with the internet is that it gives a platform to anyone and everyone. So if you have nothing of value to contribute, get attention any way you know how…. for 3 secs.

    1. Some were writing here for months that Zlatan is nothing more than an influencer, that the management is clueless on everything that is not business, that Fonseca is not the right coach for Milan. Hopefully the team won’t play like this all season and they’ll get back on track but another lousy start, another season wasted. I guess it’s still Maldini and Pioli’ fault.

  10. Bartholomäus: there is one Person in the world there is always fault: sacchi and the other italian and old european being proud to be european

  11. It all depends on which standard we are being measured by. If by our previous best seasons, then its a miserable start, if the standard is the banter era, we should not expect anything better. the two games played were an eye opener.
Those saying we should be calm and wait out 6months or 6 games, should know that the “easy” games should be won by winning even if playing badly. Winning is how momentum and self belief is built.
These 2 games raise very hard questions about what is actually going on in training. The coach’s selections leave much to be desired, nor did his substitutions in the second game show any hope of tactical intelligence. he didnt help himself at all. He paints a picture of someone ill-prepared and ill-equipped for the task at hand.
Did he watch any of our last season games compared to the scudetto season? analyze what worked and what did not?
its either he finds a system that suits all the mazzela’s they signed of sign players for the 4231 he is presently playing. He seems not to have a fixed identity or playing style.
Right now its looking like a mess!

    1. We should stop with that banter era PTSD. Since that era Milan won a Scudetto, went to UCL semifinals and developed several world class players, some that we lost because of the tight salary cap. Milan is one of the most prestigious football clubs in history and has a strong European DNA since Berlusconi. It should be the standard. Next owner maybe.

    2. For me it is pretty simple. Just compare the people that work at Juventus, Inter and even Napoli. And then Milan comes with “hold my beer”, Ibra and Furlani. I don’t remember a single club doing bad and then going for people with no experience and big mouth. Ibra made 20 times more statements than he signed players in the last 5 days only. He is on every channel saying how maybe someone will be signed, maybe not. And Milan has Jovic, Okafor and Morata who might or might not be on the level of last season. I just hope next season it will finally be paid professionals, you know like Cristiano Giuntoli, people that know what they are doing. Not learning at Milan 1st team. 😀

  12. Ibra does not identify players, he is a link between identified players/negotiations/team and the management. He is meant to understand and collates reports both on team management/performance and financial activities.

  13. The poney tale is just a muppet and a snake used for image to have some leverage for bringing second hand players impresed that he called them!Thats all!

  14. Where’s the Milan that played City, Madrid and Barça in the US tour? It’s just a different team to this one. That team doesn’t have Maignan, Leao, Theo and Pulisic and they played good football that made me wanted the season to start immediately Maybe Leao and other big guys are doing more harm than good for the team. Just my opinion

  15. It clear show that those running the affairs of the club knows nothing about football, the coach should seen that Leao kills the moral of other players with the way he plays

  16. Everything is going down when Cardinale sacked Maldini and Moncada unceremoniously and replaced them with his boyfriend Furlani.

Then Furlani sold Tonali, one of the important players who contribute to the Scudetto and replaced him with a joke like Musah who doesn’t know how to defend or attack, what he can only do is run which fit for american football lmao.

So last season was really carried by Pioli and the boys. And they sacked Pioli too despite he brought Milan at 2nd place in the league with half team was 10 new players which Pioli clearly needs time to learn and integrate them all.

Now Pioli’s replacement is a fking mediocre who’s the same level as Giampolo.

Anyone who still expect this season we have a scudetto race or a CL semi final with Fonseca are just hallucinating. Heck, 4th place not even possible with how clueless Fonseca is.

  17. Piece of shìt site just swallowed my comment and ofc I didn’t make a copy of it.
Why do I even bother? And replaying to the mor0n boulden of all people..

  18. I keep asking, when will Milan get the staff the deserve? Bring a random ex player next season to recruit. Ambrosini for example. Just randomly bring people with no experience…Ibra is a joke at his position, reading his statements says how too much he thinks of himself with 0 experience.

  19. The biggest problem with Milan is their celebrity obsession! Whether it’s Zlatan or Maldini, it doesn’t matter! People are asking why Milan didn’t bring in Conte? There’s no doubt that one of the main reasons is Zlatan himself! Because with a coach like Conte, there wouldn’t be any room for someone like Zlatan to dominate anymore! Or the wrong dismissal of Pioli because of the ‘privileged’ Maldini! I remember at the beginning of last season when Pioli and Maldini had a problem and Maldini left the club, some of Maldini’s fanboys in the club and the media were saying that Pioli either had to fight for the championship this season or he had to go! Who was he supposed to fight for the championship with? Are you blind? And you’re comparing Inter’s squad to Milan’s! It doesn’t matter, every system that gets caught up in celebrity obsession has to face consequences to be a lesson for others!

    1. Did you just type celebrity obsession and added Maldini in the same sentence.

With the danger of been labeled a Maldini fan boy, did he and massara do the job they were hired for or not. Did he bring results or not. Did he deliver a title and take Milan back to the ucl or not.

Please Maldini is gone, no need to smear his name here anymore. At least Maldini knew we where not ready yet even after the scudetto win, at least Maldini had a well competent vision and was working towards it, at least Maldini knew what he wanted and did not bend the knee for mediocrity.
