Longoni: Inter’s escape attempts failed as Milan refuse to roll over

By Isak Möller -

After the defeat in the derby, many expected AC Milan to get left behind in the Scudetto race. Instead, the story has been the complete opposite as the Rossoneri remain in joint-first along with Inter.

There’s no doubt that the defeat in the derby was a big blow to the confidence, but Milan have responded really well in the league. Three wins later and Stefano Pioli’s men remain in first along with Inter, who have been unable to escape.

This was highlighted by Andrea Longoni in his editorial for MilanNews this morning, stating that many were certain that Inter would run away at the top. Given the tight schedule, the Rossoneri do indeed deserve praise for this.

“18 points out of 21, with a calendar that is certainly not easy: Milan’s start is truly remarkable. Yesterday’s game was anything but easy. Milan waited, studied, had patience and claimed a very heavy victory.

“Amidst all of this, it seems that the cousins’ [Inter, editor’s note] escape attempts failed… Yet for some, they had already won the Scudetto,” Longoni wrote, among other things.

Milan will take on Borussia Dortmund next and following the draw against Newcastle in the opener, they will be looking to claim all three points. It won’t be easy, though, and a performance similar to that in the second half against Lazio will be needed.

  1. Reminder that aside of inter, we pretty much played against sitting ducks. Newcastle was supposed to be the easiest team in our groupe, yet we only managed a draw in San Siro. Yes we did improve A LOT compared to last season, but we are still making mistakes that are easily punishable by stronger teams.

        1. Of course it is not the same Lazio because they now play champions league. They have more matches in leg so if Sari make mistake, they will lose some points.

    1. Newcastle definitely is not the easiest team in the group and it’s normal with making mistakes because these coach and players are human, NOT robot. You’re expecting them to plays without mistakes especially with a tight schedule is just delusional as fvck. Go play your fvckin video game if you want to see Milan without mistakes.

And Lazio was last season runner up who also the team who beat us 4-0 in the league. They played well with their defense and counter, which i need to reminds you Milan always struggle with team like this.

      1. it is the easiest team. P$$$$G def isnt and BVB has massive exp in CL comapred to prisoncastle.

But, do tell. Who is the easiest team of the group?

      2. Then which team is the easiest in our group ? BVB ? PSG ? If you draw in Sansiro but expect to win in Dortmund, Paris or Newcastle ?
Yes we did struggle against teams like this, hence why I said we did improve quite a lot. We have depth now and attacking solutions.
But Lazio have so far won 2 games out of 7 and have 7 points.
It is a good win, but this is not the runner up of last season, this is a team who is so far having a rough start.
