Longoni: Mirante experiment backfires as Milan’s weakness is further highlighted

Up until the winter friendlies, Ciprian Tatarusanu was the undisputed backup goalkeeper for AC Milan. The situation has now changed, even though Antonio Mirante didn’t exactly impress against PSV Eindhoven.

As a result of Mike Maignan’s injury, Tatarusanu has played quite a lot for Milan this season and he hasn’t always been brilliant between the sticks. The Rossoneri fans, therefore, have demanded a shift in the hierarchies or a January signing.

Andrea Longoni, as he points out in his latest editorial for MilanNews, was one of the people that asked for a shift in the hierarchies between Tatarusanu and Mirante. A shift that indeed materialised but unfortunately didn’t pay off.

The PSV friendly only highlighted the fact that Milan don’t really have a strong backup goalkeeper and given Maignan’s injury struggles, this is a bit worrying. Milan have secured the arrival of Vasquez, but it remains to be seen if he will be chosen over the other two.
