Moretto: Lukaku ‘very unlikely’ to remain in Serie A despite Milan ‘desire’ – the latest

Romelu Lukaku would be open to exploring a move to AC Milan, Matteo Moretto claims, but it seems the interest is not mutual.

Lukaku is one of those players who never seems to be able to settle down at a club, and he has had a fall-out with Napoli that could spell the end of his time there. He reported for training later than expected over the recent international break, leading the club to publish a statement.

It appears that he could depart in a few weeks once the mercato reopens, with the chances of a reconciliation quite low. For a player that is now 32 years of age and that has scored only one goal in five league appearances this season due to injury, his market might be limited.

Moretto: Milan not considering Lukaku

Moretto spoke on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel to provide an update on the Lukaku situation, after claiming over the weekend that Milan could be a club to keep an eye on. His words are via FCInter1908.

“Lukaku has a desire to return to Milan. The doors are clearly closed to Inter, we need to see if some discussions can be structured at Milan,” he said.

“As of now, there’s nothing. It’s more a desire from Lukaku to return to a city where he enjoyed himself. It’s more likely that Lukaku will leave Italy. It’s very unlikely that he’ll stay in Serie A. Currently, Lukaku isn’t being considered by the Rossoneri management.”

  1. Too bad, he is an ideal profile for a backup given the circumstances surrounding Milan and himself, he can still be of some pretty solid use.

      1. He would agree to a lower salary, I’m convinced. Who would you bring for a backup? We need to stop gambling and start bringing experience(d)
        and proven players.

        1. someone like Pinamonti/ Lucca, Camarda can be good too & Gimenez still around.
i don’t think Lukaku will accept 3m/y play as rotation where he can get more in Arabs/ US

          1. I knew you’d say Lucca. Camarda isn’t ready yet for a backup role but he can be our third option in that “pure striker” department.

      1. Not so fat, not so old either and certainly not so slow at all. What are you talking about? The only real issue for us here is his demand salary wise.
