Lyon president makes admission regarding Kalulu’s move to Milan: “We made a big mistake”

By Oliver Fisher -

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has expressed regret that young defender Pierre Kalulu was allowed to leave for AC Milan on a free.

Our mercato correspondent Vito Angele confirmed to us that Milan have reached an agreement with the Lyon right-back over a five-year deal.

Kalulu is a much-needed reinforcement in what has been a problematic position for Milan all season, with Davide Calabria and Andrea Conti both struggling for form.

He landed in Italy last month and is underwent his medical examinations before heading to Casa Milan to sign his deal, and you can read our tactical analysis on what he brings to the table here.

There have been rumours from France that Lyon’s management are fuming that such a talented young player has been allowed to leave for nothing.

Now, their president Aulas has spoken about Kalulu’s departure, with his words transcribed by MilanLive.

“We made a big mistake. A great talent even if he played little. In a difficult season like the last one, the coach tends to make the elements of experience play more. It will be difficult for him abroad, but I wish him to integrate into Milan as soon as possible.”
