Maignan back for Milan after 161 days on the sidelines – ‘A caged lion’

Mike Maignan has recovered from his calf injury and will play from the first minute in AC Milan’s clash against Atalanta tomorrow. This was confirmed by Stefano Pioli today and the fans are certainly excited.

Maignan was the best goalkeeper in Serie A last season and his absence has certainly been felt, especially in the build-up phase. His return is thus very welcome and long-awaited as well, given that he has been out since September.

In fact, it’s been 161 days since he sustained the injury and Pioli confirmed during his press conference that the Frenchman is eager to return. He even described him as ‘a caged lion’, eager to make his comeback tomorrow. Getting him back in action so early is crucial ahead of the Spurs return leg.

Respct should also be given to Ciprian Tatarusanu, who has guarded the goal in Maignan’s absence. Three consecutive clean sheets certainly isn’t too shabby and while the defenders are to praise for that as well, the Romanian has made quite a few good saves in the last three games.
