Maignan describes emotions after UCL success: “I’m back playing for the Milan fans”

Mike Maignan was a key player for AC Milan in the 0-0 draw against Tottenham this evening, which saw them through to the UCL quarter-finals thanks to an aggregate lead. After the game, he spoke to the media.

The Frenchman’s return has been very important lately for the Rossoneri and he certainly showed that tonight. In addition to being instrumental in the build-up, he made a huge save at the end and earned the MOTM in our player ratings.

Speaking to Sky Italia afterwards, as cited by MilanNews, Maignan explained what it has been like to return from his long calf injury. He also shared his thoughts on what it’s like to play UCL football with a club like Milan.

On the win…

“I’m happy, an evening that we have prepared very well and with a lot of concentration. I’m also pleased because I’m back playing for the Milan fans and for the club. We have the UCL goal every year and it’s been a long time since we’ve played at this level.”

On the atmosphere of the Champions League at Milanello…

“As soon as I arrived at Casa Milan, I saw the trophies in the museum and everyone in Europe knows what Milan mean in the Champions League.”

It remains to be seen who Milan will face in the quarter-finals. The draw will take place next week on Friday and potential opponents include Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Benfica and others (those legs will be decided next week).
