Mike Maignan goalkeeper of AC Milan

CorSera: Maignan stuck in ‘a never-ending crisis’ – renewal and sale possible

What Mike Maignan needed against Torino was a calm and assured display after some recent errors. After a few minutes, all of that went out of the window.

This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) asks the question: where has the real Mike Maignan gone? The often decisive goalkeeper with saves that brought so many points to Milan has vanished, and now his renewal has become a talking point.

The former Lille man has been ‘unrecognisable for some time’ and makes too many mistakes, the latest one on Saturday against Torino when he thumped a clearance straight at Malick Thiaw and the ball flew into the empty net.

A new contract until 2028 is on the table, the verbal agreement between the parties has already been found, but his nightmare 2025 leads to an inevitable and necessary reflection among the members of the management.

The feeling is that no matter what the former Lille man will extend, but then with the possibility he can be sold in the summer for a significant sum, something not on the cards with the current contract that expires in 2026.

Those close to him speak of a player who is always professional in training, bordering on maniacal, but less calm than some time ago. The continuous changes in head coach and coaching staff in recent years and the many physical problems have not helped him, either.

How much could Milan sell him for? If two years ago his valuation was around €80m, today it has more than halved to less than €40m therefore. He is no longer untouchable, and that extends to Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao too.

  1. Call me crazy but milan needs at least Italian assistant Coach to deal more closely with players and hopefully can help against “smaller” teams … foreign coach can defeat inter and real but his ways are no good against bottom half. Throw in BBQ get everyone to chill for a day.. this current style is not working

  2. Let Torriani take the gloves! At 19 he’s been impressive every time he’s had a start. He’s Italian and AC Milan through and through.
