Maignan responds brilliantly when asked about PSG: “It doesn’t matter to me”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan gave a rather blunt response when asked for his thoughts on Paris Saint-Germain’s elimination from the Champions League.

Maignan walked off the field having arguably been Milan’s most decisive player last night as they drew 0-0 with Spurs to secure progress to the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

The clean sheet was largely thanks to his incredible save on Harry Kane towards the end of the game, after which he was interviewed by beIN Sports about his and was asked about his thoughts on PSG’s elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich.

“It doesn’t matter to me at all, I’m at Milan (laughs). I don’t know what else I can say. Training in Paris? Yes, but that’s nine years since I left. I’m focused on my current club,” he said (via GFNF).

Maignan was at PSG as a youth player from 2009 to 2015 and signed his first professional contract in the French capital but would ultimately move to Lille where he became one of the best goalkeeper in the league, winning a league title and earning a move to Milan.

  1. It’s normal, journalists ask these type of questions where the player has been before..
Even Donarumma was asked the same, so not a big deal.. the important thing is, how they respond to those

    1. The thing is Maignan didn’t leave any mark in PSG to begin with. He didn’t get any single cap on the senior side. If he’s being asked about Lille that’s more logical.

      Contrary with Donnarumma.

      1. According to stats…
Aubameyang never left any mark on AC Milan to begin with, He didn’t get any any single cap on the senior side.

Yet some illogical fans, journalists kept asking him about a return to Milan and even himself kept on speculating on it.

Stats don’t reveal everything my brother, number of caps doesn’t change one’s history, lack of affection and communication between father and son doesn’t change his ancestry, these things ain’t that difficult, it’s common sense and no reading of stats.

  2. Its funny how players like Donnarumma and Kessie got out of CL and even Europa League because they wanted more silverware even tho the salary was almost the same we offered. I miss Kessie but definetly not Donnarumma because Maignan if he stays fit we could become the best GK in the planet 🙂 good job to all the players, coach and staff for advancing in CL. Also Calha wanted to win Scudetto and is on course on missing 2 times on row

    1. Buffon’s response on why he left PSG back to Juventus, this was after agreeing that went to PSG for personal and selfish reasons:

“But I decided to return to Juve when one evening in Paris, I was sitting alone.”

“I am thinking I am 41 and I am here alone when my family is back in Italy.”

“So I forced my hand with PSG and when Juve made an offer that seemed right to me.”

      “I immediately accepted it.”

Buffon was lucky his family wanted him back and they hadn’t adequately replaced him. But AC Milan is different, the club and its history is bigger than any player to hold us to ransom.

It’s too late for Donnaruma, Milan who was his family don’t want him back, he burnt the bridge, and the paycheck isn’t much different, no CL progress since.

The grass isn’t always greener, I wish Leao realises this faster.

  3. Yes a great goalkeeper we have ,it’s so important to have such a class keeper especially when competing at such a high level in the champions league..
Well done AC Milan on your advancement to the
last eight ….I did predict we would do this ..
Who knows ,can we reach the last four ..
We will have to wait and see…
So a great performance from a very good AC Milan team ….A great management team and a very manager Stefano pioli ..so let’s get behind our team and stop the unfair criticism…We are doing well ..
In the last eight of the champions league and a top four place well possible in our league..
So let’s stay optimistic and thankful ..

    1. Let’s not get carried away my friend, this was the problem we faced last season, we assumed everything was OK because we managed to win games anyway.

If you call this a great performance, I don’t see it that way. I mean, it was an efficient performance, tidy enough to at least see the tie through, I’m happy about that but listen, this is the Champions League.

We played a good first leg, which could have ended with a two to three goals advantage but we somehow managed just one. The second leg was always dicey as one goal from Tottenham could have changed the complexity of that second leg right in front of their home fans.

Milan played well, I still think Tottenham was grossly miserable outing. We need to up our game especially in the finishing, I was so disappointed with Leao, Giroud displays as they played like little was a stake, while Messias put in effort, the quality just wasn’t enough.

Imagine playing against Real Madrid and Leao and Giroud playing like that and boom, Vinicious scores and the Benabau comes alive, we could be roasted.

  4. I dunno if you spotted this but Gigi was asked the same question and he felt almost regret. Good. Let this be a lesson for all
