MN: Maignan’s return ‘almost here’ with two games circled in red

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are hoping to soon be able to welcome Mike Maignan back onto the field after a long absence, and that could perhaps happen in the Atalanta game.

According to a report from Antonio Vitiello in his MilanNews column, Maignan’s return is ‘almost here’ and this could be a key week because he should gradually return to training with the rest of the squad at Milanello and stepping up the drills he is doing.

After five months of waiting the former Lille man is very close to being able to walk out onto the field again as the starting goalkeeper, and the Atalanta or Fiorentina games are the ones circled in red, but we will see the choice the medical and coaching staff make.

It will be based on how Maignan’s calf and general condition looks during the week, especially after such a long period of inactivity given he hasn’t played a match for Milan since 18 September.

  1. With Maignan back, I think we’ll revert back to 4-2-3-1 formation as I can’t stress enough how his distribution is sorely missed. He would also commands leadership in the penalty area and boost the defence’s confidence. Milan would be a different beast with Maignan.

The only catch is, would he be the same player after this niggling injury..
