Mike Maignan’s World Cup began yesterday with France and the AC Milan shot-stopper did not have a performance to rave about.
It could be a big summer for Maignan with plenty of rumours about his future again. Indeed, the Frenchman’s agents are sourcing interest in a move for him after Milan failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Whether he will actually leave is another thing entirely, but it would seem that there is at least a consideration to leave San Siro now. If that is to be the case, though, he needs to start playing better on the biggest stage.
Maignan struggles for France
In the World Cup opener yesterday, France were expected to have a comfortable time. However, it proved to be anything but for most of the game and the goalkeeper was not without fault. L’Equipe’s comments can be seen below and the French paper did not hold back in their criticisms of him.
“How could he be beaten by that Mbaye shot (90+5)? A goalkeeper of his talent shouldn’t be putting in such a poor performance. He was beaten and then very lucky with Jackson’s shot that hit the post (25th minute).
“His distribution was quite disastrous (11th, 38th, 39th, 45+3, 79th minutes). And a questionable catch at the end of the match (90+10 minutes). He inspired no confidence whatsoever. Worrying.”

It’s not like he had a good season with his club and it’s not like he and his teammates didn’t lose that F CL spot in the last match at home against Cagliari…
Its not like he hasn’t been poor for about 3 years now
Bingo. Torriani will walk soon and go somewhere else and probably be come a thoroughly decent GK, like Longoni.
He wasn’t poor the ENTIRE time, let us be honest…
He was what kept us in the game for half the season remember. After new year he became human and Milan almost never won again.
Something like that, you got it.
Dax att avyttra former Magic Mike
He’s just trying to get his transfer fee lowered so he can get away from Milan. No one will pay what Milan are asking for him now. 🫣
Well there are few breathing down his neck so sure let him do that. Another game like this and he can come back and start training with his new portuguese goalkeeper coach that Amorim is bringing along.
Then he will remain a Milan player.
I thought was the only one who saw his countless flaws in their yesterday’s game. I settled it in me that Milan should sell him the moment any good offer comes. How can he be easily beaten at the near post more often than not.
Mike sucks at his near post. Period.
Yep. It’s his Achilles heel.
Well… Not sure if his “near post vacuuming” is worse than his inability to go and grab easy crosses instead of being glued to the goal line. 🤷♂️
We do have two Achilles heels so I guess they both can be his… 😁
His near post, aerial balls, positioning during corner kicks have always been problem. He may be France’s best keeper but easily replaceable in Serie A. I thank him for his services and professionalism but we can use the money somewhere else.
And in the next game he’ll make some incredible saves and all the articles will be about how great he is. It’s called being a goalkeeper…good strikers miss sitters and good goal keepers drop a clanger every once in a while.
