CorSera: Maldini was decisive in getting Spurs-Milan delayed – the background

By Oliver Fisher -

Some interesting background has emerged regarding the build-up to the game between AC Milan and Spurs in north London on Wednesday.

The match between Tottenham and Milan ended up starting ten minutes after the original schedule because both teams arrived half an hour late at the stadium due to the very heavy London traffic.

According to what Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) are reporting, Spurs had no intention of asking for a postponement, while on the other hand Milan requested one immediately having arrived slightly later.

Paolo Maldini pleaded the cause of the 10-minute postponement, who spoke insistently with the UEFA delegates and in the end he got his wish, convincing the federation that it was the right thing to do.

The build-up to the game was shrouded in confusion as broadcasters BT Sport said a 30-minute delay had been agree, all while Spurs staff in the media section were telling journalists there would be no delay at all.

  1. Fkin Spurs. They don’t want to delay when the traffic was bad?!

I’m glad Spurs lost and out of CL. EPL teams needs a big lesson of not to act arrogant just because they have the money.
