Maldini confirms meeting over Ibra’s future and discusses idea of Donnarumma ‘regret’

AC Milan director Paolo Maldini has revealed that he has a meeting planned with Zlatan Ibrahimovic to discuss his future and also spoke about Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Through a statement on the club’s official website, the Rossoneri confirmed that Ibrahimovic underwent an operation on his left knee in Lyon on Wednesday and that his estimated recovery time is 7-8 months.

In the long interview given by Maldini to La Gazzetta dello Sport during which he spoke about several topics, he was asked about Ibrahimovic and what the future might hold for the Swede after a pretty sizeable setback.

“I spoke to him on Monday and we scheduled a meeting for about a fortnight. I don’t see any problems in finding an agreement. Playing so little, he is certainly not at ease. We’ll see what happens in the next two weeks. Everything will be done for his sake and for Milan. From what I understand his intention is to continue,” he said (via MilanNews).

Milan have not missed Gianluigi Donnarumma after the young Italian decided to depart for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer as Mike Maignan has proven to be an upgrade if anything.

Nonetheless, Maldini was asked about whether he thinks Gigio feels any regret regarding his decision to leave, revealing that he has not heard from him since the Scudetto triumph.

“Did he write to me after the Scudetto? No, but during the year we spoke and then I saw him at Ibra’s 40th birthday party. Does he regret his move? I don’t know, I still hope he is happy. He gave a lot to Milan.”
