Maldini stresses importance of revenue increase for Milan after Emirates renewal

Paolo Maldini made some interesting points regarding the importance of deals like the one renewed with Emirates during his interview for the club’s official media channels today.

It was announced earlier today that Milan and Emirates have agreed to extend their over 15-year relationship together, meaning the airline will stay as one of the main partners of the club as well as the sponsor of the men’s first team shirts.

According to what MilanNews are reporting, the new agreement between the Rossoneri and Emirates should last for three years and should be worth €30-35m per year, therefore the renewal with Emirates should ensure Milan between €90m and €105m in total revenues.

Maldini was asked about the economic aspect of football and how it has become such a hugely competitive industry, and how Milan can possibly even attempt to compete with the financial elite in Europe.

“The economic aspect of the football business is essential to be competitive, this is now an equation that leads some teams to be protagonists almost mathematically with certain revenues,” he said (via MilanNews).

“To be protagonists we must have of revenues as protagonists. Among other things, Emirates has been our sponsor for 15 years now and I think they are used to this type of collaboration and therefore we are really very happy, to be here first of all but then to have renewed for a few more years.”
