Andriy Shevchenko believes that AC Milan are currently missing the presence of a figure like Paolo Maldini, given what he represents.
Milan are now in their second season without Maldini, given he and Ricky Massara were sacked as the technical and sporting director after the final game of the 2022-23 season against Verona, arousing questions about the plans moving forward.
The reasons for the fall-out between Maldini and RedBird Capital were debated at length, and given the lack of success that has followed there has always been a faction of fans that believe the former captain should still be at the club.
Shevchenko spoke to journalists on Monday night while at the FIGC Hall of Fame presentation in which he was inducted, and he commented on the inconsistency so far this season plus Rafael Leao’s status in the squad.
Now, the former striker gave a comment to Cronache di Spogliatoio during the charity evening ‘Un brutto t1po!’ in support of the Diabetes Research Institute of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
“Today’s Milan lacks continuity. It’s hard to say from the outside, but I think it’s all in the mind. Maldini is Milan, he ended his career at 41 years old breaking every record and winning everything: he is greatly missed,” he said (via MilanPress).
