Maldini makes stance clear after Donnarumma confrontation as ‘renewals are now frozen’

Gigio Donnarumma was confronted by a group of Milan fans at Milanello yesterday, due to the contract which will expire in the summer. It’s a move that wasn’t appreciated by the club, who have now made their stance clear.

In such a crucial phase of the season, it’s very important not to put unnecessary pressure on the players, who already are in a delicate situation. Therefore, the confrontation with Donnarumma didn’t come to any good, as the goalkeeper left in tears.

Speaking to ANSA, as cited by MilanNews, Milan’s technical director Paolo Maldini made their stance clear on the matter. He revealed that all of the renewals have now been frozen until the end of the season to protect the players.

“It’s important to firmly reiterate that no one outside of Milan can decide who plays and who renews. Certain choices are up to the coach for the pitch and the club for contractual matters.

“Every single negotiation for renewals is now frozen until the end of the season, to allow the team to focus solely on the league. In the meantime, we will continue to protect our players as we always have,” he stated.

In addition to Donnarumma, Hakan Calhanoglu is also sitting on an expiring contract and a lot will probably depend on the Champions League. Should Milan qualify for it, then the duo will most likely want to stay.

  1. I don’t think it’s okay that no one can decide from the side, it can because AC. Milan depends on the fans. The fans just expressed dissatisfaction and asked Donnarum to solve his own saga that his agent Raiola staged. Donnarumma LOVED MILAN’S JERSEY MANY TIMES AND SAID HE WAS STAYING. it is not enough to take a pen and sign a contract for Milan that will bind him for life.
