Sky: Maldini and Massara have long discussion with CEO Furlani after Sassuolo drubbing

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan fell to their worst defeat in a long time this afternoon as they were beaten 5-2 at home by relegation battlers Sassuolo, and it seems to have caused concern among the management.

Milan’s defensive record coming into the game was under fire but it got worse when Sassuolo scored three goals in 11 minutes through Gregoire Defrel, Davide Frattesi and Domenico Berardi to go in 3-1 up at the break, and they added two more after the interval en route to a rout.

Sky (via MilanNews) write that at the end of the game there was a long discussion between technical director Paolo Maldini, sporting director Ricky Massara and the new CEO Giorgio Furlani to analyse the rather complicated situation.

However, no changes are foreseen to the plans for the next couple of days, so the squad will have a rest tomorrow, resuming training on Tuesday with the obligatory lunch at Milanello ahead of the derby against Inter next weekend.

  1. Next week they defeat against Inter on Derby, maybe Pioli will out. Please resign mister. Maldini & co should search another coach at least for the rest this season. Milan should keen on Conte, he already free agent next season ( probable he didnt renewal with Spurs )

    1. We should wait? Till Summer for Conte, to become a free agent? Tuchel, is available I don’t know, why they haven’t tried to contact him.. Chelsea, were shambolic under Frank Lampard.. They appointed Tuchel, and we all know what happened next!

      1. As much as we all love Pioli, I think Tuchel will be a great upgdrade.

Yes players are at fault for the individual mistakes, but when you leak goals like that, then you need to shield the defence more, regardless of whose fault is it. Pioli stuck with 4231 (when it clearly isn’t working from the begining of the season) is what brought us to this place.

    2. Now you want the coach gone? Bring Pep Guardiola to handle this same players that played today, he wouldn’t do any better. Today’s players are mostly rotten tomatoes. What big coach would come to a club with such meagre budget? Pioli has done well in the past three seasons. He only needs quality players to take the team forward. The lack of depth is clearly showing. I don’t know what else the owners need to see to do what they are supposed to do.

    3. Its not Pioli. Its the useless free off the market players that are currently playing for milan. No coach can help that keeper or the north defense and offense. All left over free players. They are not spending the money. They can go ahead and change to whoever, wont go anywhere. Start buying real milan players that can represent that club.

      1. “They are not spending the money. ”

Like Lazio & Sassuolo did last summer? 😀 😀 😀 No wait!!! They didn’t. Yet they both destroyed us. I though the matches were won by who ever splashed out most on player transfers. Weird.

  2. Marcelo Gallardo is available after he left River Plate. His teams played modern football, and he helped shape Julian Alvarez and Enzo Fernandez in the players they became.
Milan isn’t getting Conte, Pochetino, Tuchel, Klopp. Those guys get over 10 mil a year

      1. Struggling or not, Milan can’t afford Klopp. There will be a plethora of clubs trying to sign Klopp if he decides to leave Liverpool. Clubs that can offer him 10x than what Milan can offer in salary or budget for player purchases.
This current version of Milan is not on Klopps level

  3. Pioli is a shambolic and incompetent manager. He first showed his limitations in the champions league when time after time, he was unable to understand how to counteract PL opposition. Then he destroyed young player’s confidence and careers. Adli and CDK have been ruined at the same time. He is technically inflexible and does not respond to situations in a constructive manner. Take the lecce and lazio games where even the fans could see that he needed to pack the midfield. He’s lost the players completely. Now we talk about ownership and maldini. They are the most at fault for destroying our club. Small club mentality, cheap club mentality. Let kessie leave and dont replace him. Let romagnoli leave and dont replace him either. If the club do nothing, then we will not finish in CL. Because it is crystal clear, despite the fact that Milan play in a weak league, our squad will quite happily sink to the level of any opponent. No win is assured. Redbird has taken a serie A winning club and turned them into a conference league team.

  4. What’s wrong with Pioli? Why can’t he bench TAtarus, he keeps shipping in goals. Our woes started when Maign sustained injury.
